Cheerleading A Sport Essay

A sport is an activity involving physical exertion and skill in which an individual or team competes against another or others for entertainment. Cheer does all of that, but people this don’t think it is a sport. No one was really into cheer until 2012. Cheer became so popular, that boys started to join it's a Co-Ed sport now. Cheerleading is a sport because they compete against other teams, they use skills and physical for everything, and they put a lot of effort and work into everything they do.
Cheerleaders compete against other teams, "The Golden Hawks have won three national titles since 2011 and have stockpiled dozens of trophies from other regional competitions during Bowers' 10-year run at the school" (Connolly). Their team won three national titles but never put them up because it isn't a sport. "Cheerleading has grown as a sport over the past couple of decades. According to the National
Flying, stunting, jumps, cheers, and dance. “Any physical activity in which relative performance can be judged or quantified can be developed into a competitive sport as long as (1) the physical activity includes the above defined elements and (2) the primary purpose is competition versus other teams or individuals within a competition structure comparable to other athletics' activities” (Lord). Cheer is above the defined the elements and competes against other teams, it has everything to be a sport. "Gov. Jerry Brown effectively answered that last week when he signed a new law classifying competition cheer as a California Interscholastic Federation sport starting in the 2017-18 school year” (Connolly)
Cheerleaders are athletes too, just like any other sport. Cheer should be made a sport. They put so much work into what they love to do.
