Chester A. Arthur: A Brief Biography

Chester A. Arthur He was born on October 5th 1829, In Fairland Vermont. He had nine siblings, and was the eldest of the three sons in the family. Being the one of the elders of his many siblings, he acquired a desire to lead. His father was a preacher. Like any preacher kid at that time, his family was often transferred various villages in Vermont and upstate New York, which widened Chester’s view of politics in diverse locations. Also being a preacher's kid, he had to have some admirable ethics. He was definitely a hard worker. He graduated from the Union College in New York, when he was only eighteen years old. He Studied law, became a young attorney at the city law firm, and started teaching. He believed the in equality of all different races, and won many African American civil right cases. He was a genuine unique person, and an exquisite leader. Professor Doenecke writes in his article, “Historians view the Chester Arthur presidency as an important surprise, one that no one would have expected. Put simply, he performed well in office, defying his state-based reputation as a slick machine politician.” A machine politician is basically someone who controls the people for their benefit.
