Chevy Commercial Analysis
Most people have heard the saying “A dog is a man’s best friend”. This familiar saying comes alive in the 2014 Chevy commercial about a golden retriever Maddie. The commercial shows the dog, Maddie, growing up with her owners and going through different obstacles with them. Like their Chevy car, Maddie is always there for the family in the commercial. Chevy targets parents as their audience, and plays on their emotions in the commercial in order to sell more of their cars.
The purpose of the 2014 Chevy Commercial featuring Maddie is for Chevy to sell more of their cars. Chevy tries to do this by showing the audience how their cars will be there throughout the owner's life, just like a dog will. The Chevy car is with the family in the commercial

Maddie symbolizes Chevy cars and how the cars will be with their owner through everything life has to offer. In the commercial Maddie is with the girl from when she was just learning to read, to when she was moving into her own apartment many years later. Chevy uses the dog Maddie to illustrate how, like a dog, their cars will be there for their customers throughout life. Chevy used Maddie as a symbol of their cars because they know that dogs will appeal to the audience’s pathos when they see how the dog was the girl's best friend throughout the commercial from the day she got Maddie to the day Maddie would die. Chevy wants their customers to believe that like a dog, their cars are dependable and loyal life partners. In the 2014 Chevy commercial featuring a dog Maddie, Chevy tries to target a parental audience, and appeal to their pathos, ethos, and sense of humor. They do this in order to sell more Chevy cars. Chevy used the dog Maddie in the commercial as a symbol of their cars. They are trying to show customers that like the golden retriever Maddie in the commercial, their cars will be a good companion for life.
