Children should be tried as adults
Children Should Be Tried As Adults You walk into a court room, and the person clearly committed the crime they are being prosecuted for. This person is normal, they can think straight, they know what they did was wrong. But all they get is a slap on the wrist and are set free. A child/teenager who commits a crime is guilty. It is as simple as that, you should be punished for whatever you did no matter how old you are. Juvenile criminals must, and should be tried as adults. There are many reasons to support this argument. First of all, a crime is a crime, no matter who did it, or how old they are. If two people are murdered and one murder is committed by a 40-year old and another is committed by a 15-year old, is there any difference in the outcome? No! Secondly, young offenders need to understand the consequences of their actions. According to the National Crime Analysis Project of Northeastern University in Massachusetts, the number of 17-year olds arrested for murder climbed 121 percent in the latter half of the 80’s (Debate). Thirdly, if we hold children accountable and try them as adults this will deter them from future crimes. “Trying children as adults has coincided with lower rates of juvenile crimes. Light sentences do not teach kids the lesson they need to learn” (Wild). The lesson is that if you commit a terrible crime, you will spend most of your life in jail. A crime is a crime, no matter who did it or how old they are. Just because a “kid” committed a crime doesn’t mean that a crime wasn’t committed. For example, four boys from Tampa, Florida should spend the rest of their lives in prison for what they did to one of their classmates. “In a “locker room prank,” they sodomized a 13 year-old boy with a broomstick and a hockey stick” (Keri). This kid is ruined for life; shouldn’t they pay for their actions? Many crimes by children have been violent and/or even deadly. There is usually a victim who has suffered or even died. Even a child should pay

Many people around the nation have different views on the subject of juvenile justice. Some believe that despite the children's age, they should still be tried as an adult if a serious crime is committed. On the other hand, some believe children should not be tried as adult even if they commit a rather serious crime. I firmly that these children should not be sentenced to life in prison despite the serious crime that they have committed and should have another shot at life when their brain is fully developed.…

“Five years ago juveniles were being tried for shoplifting, now we have murders, breaking out car windows … it all ties into gang activity. Six to eight months ago, a juvenile I represented said he wanted to be in a gang, so he robbed an elderly woman.” Juveniles should be convicted as adults for violent crimes because when they commit a crime and don't get caught or have any consequences after, they are basically walking around our streets with no one to notice they are criminals. If they did it once, they can do it again and get away with it. A crime is a crime no matter what the age of the criminal, they need to be punished.…

Don’t let the innocent looks and actions of kids and teenagers fool you. Never under estimate the knowledge of kids and youths due to their first impression, the way they look, dress and act. I believe teenagers should be tried and sentenced as adults. If teenagers believe they could get away with cruel crimes, then I believe they are capable of being able to handle the consequences of an adult act and behavior.…

There are multiple reasons that allow individuals to have their own opinions considering children and how they should be treated and tried in criminal cases. Many people today believe that teenagers should not be tried to mandatory life in prisons because their brains are not fully developed to make wise decisions which means they lack common sense. While others believe juveniles should be sentenced to mandatory life in prison because teenagers have plenty of common sense and at their age can identify right from wrong and are also aware of the consequences that they will encounter. I believe juveniles should not be tried to mandatory life in prison for their heinous crimes because they are still underdeveloped and are less mature compared to…

People still debate whether juveniles should be tried as adults. There are many juveniles creating adult crimes and getting away with little sentences and use excuses like being too "young" or inherited genes. Some juveniles really mean to kill or hurt someone and that is not acceptable for that person to get a little sentence. In the article "On Punishment and Teen Killers" by Jennifer Jenkins, it talks about how juveniles deserve to be tried as adults for committing commensurate crimes which is a good decision.…

In Kentucky, and in many other states as well, after the age of 18 you are considered an adult. This is the level of majority. If someone were to commit a crime at this age or older they would be tried as an adult. Children under the age of 18 cannot be sentenced to death or to life without possibility of parole. This is because children are physically incapable of making mature, responsible, well processed decisions. Opinions from one person to the next differ as there are several reasons concerning juveniles how they should be treated and tried in criminal cases (Southerland). The issue may be more of a debate as some people would say that kids do not have enough reasoning and lack common sense. Others, on the other hand, would say that juveniles have plenty of brains and common sense. There are strong reasons as to why juveniles should not be tried as adults and should not be eligible for life without parole.…

In the United States, anyone who is charged for committing a crime before the day of their 18th birthday is considered a juvenile and depending on the severity of the case shall be tried as a juvenile. There are some cases; however, where the juvenile justice system should be harder on the juvenile, but in most cases they should not go to an adult prison. There are most certainly some cases in which the juvenile should face the adult justice system, but for petty instances, a juvenile court will suffice. I find it hard to agree that a juvenile convicted for crimes dealing with drugs, alcohol, traffic violations, etc. should be tried in an adult court to receive punishment; however, I do believe that someone who commits rape, murder, kidnapping, or any other major crimes of the sort should be taken to an adult court. “Old enough to do the crime, old enough to do the time,” is a quote I remember hearing as I was growing up, but I was not taught that it applied to small or minor crimes, but often serious ones involving the harming of another individual. Placing juveniles in adult prisons can cause them to be put in danger, when in reality many of them can be “fixed”…

For the people who said that they should be tried as adults, they believe that juveniles should be held responsible for their actions, that juveniles are not kids that they are young adults, and that by forgiving the juvenile for the crime they did, would just make them think their actions are okay. For the people who think that juveniles should not be tried as adults, they believe that juveniles are physically incapable of thinking like an adult, therefore should not be treated like one. Both sides have valid points in backing up their reasoning’s. I think it is important to look at both sides of the arguments before deciding if you think juveniles should be tried as adults or…

The juvenile justice system has been in existence for over 100 years. The main objective of the juvenile justice system is to rehabilitate the child, not to enforce excessive punishment. The system involves children under the age of eighteen years old. There is a line between juveniles and adult offenders. Just because the offender is under the age of eighteen, does that make him or her incapable of being charged for a crime and be convicted just like an adult? This question comes to mind when a child commits a crime such as murder. Should a child be convicted and suffer the same consequences as an adult? Or should the system just accept the fact that the child does not know any better and release them? From a moral standpoint, it would not be fair to subject a child to the death penalty but it seems like the justice system outweighs many moral standpoints.…
