Course Description:
This single-semester, terminal course is designed to provide engineering students with a foundation in the fundamental principles and concepts of chemistry. Topics covered include atomic structure, nomenclature, chemical equations, stoichiometry, thermochemistry, chemical bonding, solution properties, kinetics, equilibrium, electrochemistry, descriptive inorganic, nuclear chemistry, and bio/organic chemistry. Quantitative problem solving, involving some calculus-based concepts, is emphasized.
Course Learning objectives
Upon completion of this course, students should have both an understanding of and appreciation for basic chemical principles and also an improved ability to identify problems, to develop algorithms to solve problems, and to thoughtfully implement those algorithms.
Textbooks &Materials
Required: Chemistry 11th edition, by Raymond Chang
