As I think about an event or experience that has influenced me in my academics and goals at CCU, I first must tell you what my goal is. My ultimate goal is to become a Christian Counselor, serving my Father well and able to support my family in that capacity. So Many events and life experiences contribute to my new found goals. Life lessons spring from relationships, and there are too many relationships to count. Family and friends, classmates, teammates and coworkers have all made an impact as my influences. Goals are made and changed with time and mine were no different, ever changing. But one day stands out as a turning point in my life, the day God revealed my purpose. Oh, I always knew He had one for me.

Amazingly, God gives us a second chance (or 2 or 20) and in our obedience He shows us what is best for us, what He wants for us. It was in this season of my life, in obedience to Him, that He revealed His purpose to me. He gave me a goal. I was at my women's bible sturdy and talking about God's plans for each of us, when my friend said that she was being called to go back to school and become a Christian Counselor for teens. She explained how her involvement in the lives of the teens at our church had greatly impacted her and the decision to go back to college and "make it official". Many months before this moment, I had been praying that He would reveal His plan for me. I had been looking for a lightning bolt, but He whispered to me, "this is what I have for you." I'm not involved with the teens as my friend is, I knew that wasn't specifically for me. But a Christian counselor, Yes, this was it! I had spent the last few months walking through a tough time with my sister, sharing tears, ideas and counsel. I had become a leader in the women's ministry at my church and grown

All of us have a lot of questions, and we don’t have the answers to those questions; that can really discourage us. I was in college and that’s how I felt. Consequently, that led to many dismal thoughts, because I assumed that I didn’t serve a purpose. One event in particular gave me an idea, that I could begin the cycle of purpose for myself. Once, I was nonchalantly strolling to my car from class, when I spotted an anomaly in the distance. My car had been burglarized, which made me a mix of complicated emotions. I sprinted to my car, hopefully nothing had been taken. Although, the doors were wide open, only one thing was stolen; my car radio. “Why me,” I screamed at the…

All my goals lead into each other helping me grow and develop into a better person that can now be ready for change. By having the right mindset and setting out to do the goals I said I would I have overcome so much in such a little amount of time. Just like how William Pollard said it best in his quote that I had quoted earlier in my paper about those who are not ready to make that change will be left behind and I for sure do not want to be left…

In the second Basic Counseling Response, I will be writing about journal entries regarding my observations and incorporation of the BCRs. I believe that it is important that I display high priority on such incorporation because it is indicated that the BCRs represent the support for the future group facilitator assignment of this semester. The BCRs that I observed taking place in any setting is in my apartment with my friend. The BCRs that I intentionally incorporated into any interactions, in any setting is utilizing discretionary for self-disclosing and passive for paraphrasing. It is indicated that self-disclosing is which the delicate decision of when and how to share with the client intended to benefit the client. An example of self-disclosing,…

When I first began to think about college, I was overwhelmed to say the least. More accurately, I was terrified. I had no obvious plan for the future and I didn’t know how I was going to decide where to go or what to do. I knew what I liked to do but I had no idea how interests translated into a major. It all seemed so impossible at the beginning, but as the year progressed I began to develop a goal: Meredith College. After a long period of worry and stress, I was accepted to Meredith and offered financial aid. Meredith College is my dream school and I know that’s where God wants me to grow for the next four years. I am so excited to go to school and to learn everything this important, unique school has to offer. Ever since I was little, I…

Deciding how to model your counseling practice is one of the fundamental issues needing to be addressed when a counselor is choosing to begin a successful career as a licensed counselor. There are many different theories, strategies and methods to choose from when developing the foundation of your models, but all must adhere to the ethical standard of behavior set forth by the American Counseling Association. I'm a seventeen year old African American Christian girl, who has no idea what she going to be in life. When I was ten years old my mother, Candyce Brockington, died from cancer. While she was alive, I swore I would become a doctor and cure cancer. After she died, I didn't know who I was, let alone who I wanted to become. Completely lost and confused, my main focus became my studies, not because I enjoyed it, but because it keep me focus on the big picture, college. When my mother was still alive the most important thing she wanted was for her kids to go college and live a wonderful and happy life. When we, my siblings and I, were children we played all the sports and joined all the clubs, not for amusement, even though I did have fun, but…

It also really inspires me to really give everything I have and to take risks. My aspirations for my career is to go into Physical Therapy. After my four years at MSU, I hope to be able to go to John Hopkins to further my education for Physical Therapy. After I finish schooling, I want to work in a practice for a while, then when I am more experienced, I want to try and open my own practice. As for my aspirations at MSU, I really want to be at the top of the class, and just get all the hands on experience I can get, and really enjoy what I am learning. I know that my dreams take work and a lot of dedication, so to help me achieve them, I know I need to set smaller goals to keep myself inspired, but having something to work for that’s realistic at that moment. I will use each of the smaller goals as stepping stones to my ultimate goal of owning my own practice. This will be easy because I work harder for things that mean a lot to me, and this is very…

Ms. Wescott, decided to reach out to the parent; who I met during the 504 observation. This parent agreed, that it was okay for me to observe a counseling session with Ms. Wescott and her daughter.…

My first goal was to obtain my general Equivalency Diploma (GED) with the intentions of later attending college. It took me longer to achieve my goals, since I have had many personal obstacles in my way. At the age of 17, I became a married teenage single mother of a one month old baby. I did not have much of a family so I had to take care of my child on my own. My family was not the type to go to for help because they would take from someone leaving them helpless. Looking in the mirror one day after being knocked down for not cooking dinner, made me look into my soul through my eyes; I decided enduring a life with so much Domestic Violence that it was not for me.…

The next most important goal of mine is to obtain my degree. I am majoring in psychology, something I have been interested in since I was a small child. Getting my associate’s degree would mean the world to me and signify to my family and I that all these years of hard work have paid off. The college has an excellent psychology program and I’m very interested, which definitely makes things easier on me. I’m still just as interested in psychology as I was years ago.…
