Listen To the World with TuneIn Radio
Many applications for mobile phones and computers offer a method for listening to radio talk shows and the current popular songs in the world of musical entertainment but one company offers an application that lets the user hear the programming the way it was meant to be heard, through radio.
According to Tunein radio’s CEO John Donham the difference between Tunein and other radio services such as Pandora or Iheart Radio is that they are not the broadcaster, but merely the medium in which the radio stations are reached (5 Questions with Tunein CEO John Donham, 2012). What this means, in layman’s terms, is that the user has a unique choice to listen to radio stations across the globe in real time. There is no playlist to incorporate or a complicated setup process to begin listening. Here the user simply chooses the station and that is the end of it.
The choices that Tunein offers for one’s listening enjoyment are as vast as global culture. There are over 70,000 stations from 230 countries that can be listened to at any time (5 Questions with Tunein CEO John Donham, 2012). It would appear that this one tiny application is one more link in keeping our world smaller than it was a mere decade ago. Now someone traveling abroad can be kept up to date on their local news simply by turning on the application from their mobile device. People in the military will be able to ease the pangs of home-sickness by at least listening to radio describing current activities in their home towns.
The application is not strictly held to PC and mobile devices however, now there are many other platforms that carry the application including the popular Roku player (roku.com). This allows for a more pleasurable experience by making it possible to merge the programming with one’s surround sound system or other stereo equipment to
