Introduction
In this report, I will describe a teacher and her students in an observation I did in an English Speaking and Listening class of Mathayom 5 at Satree Yala School. I did this observation on Friday, November 21, 2014, and the class started from 10 a.m. – 10.50 a.m. There were amount of thirty-six students in this class. The aim of the lesson was the students can make a requesting and accepting or refusing. Throughout this paper the classroom procedures and teaching characteristics will be covered and also with my reflection towards the observation.
The Classroom procedures In this section, the classroom events will be listed in order including students and teacher interaction during my observation.
First, the teacher starts the class by greeting the students and let them checking the tidiness of the class.
Teacher asks students about the previous lesson and they can tell that last time they learned about “inviting”. Teacher asks further to review the lesson and checks their understanding again by asking them how to say when they want to invite someone to do something. Most of the students can answer it correctly, so the teacher moves forward to today’s lesson.
The teacher tells about the lesson for today is “Making a requesting and Making an accepting or refusing”. Teacher gives some example expressions of requesting such as “Can I borrow your pen, please?” /Can you help me to ..…, please? /Could you give me a hand, please? and so on. Then tells them how to reply for those requesting, sometimes accept but sometime refuse for example, if it is accepting they can say “here you are!” or if it is refusing they can say “Sorry! I still use it. /Sorry! I am busy now.”
Teacher presents the lesson by playing game “Finding Partners”, and then she explains about the direction how to play the game.
Teacher gives some strips of paper to all students, some will get requesting and some will get accepting or refusing expression.
