I set up coaching sessions with my teachers and then go through the process of pre/post conferences with an observation in the middle. I usually try to see each teacher at least twice a month and sometimes I pick what I want to see, especially if we have had professional development on a piece of the framework or I let them select the topic.
Cognitive coaching can be used to improve teacher’s weakness and accentuate their strengths. Coaching is significant because it puts the teacher in charge of his/her own conference, it cause the teacher to think deeply about their teaching, and they are usually harder on themselves, I know I am harder on myself.
Cognitive coaching can also be used with students; we are always observing our students as the work so why not ask them about their work before we assess the work. I feel that by discussing their work they may discover changes they want to make with their work and as a teacher we may even get some insight into the work the completed. I know in literacy collaborative we do this through conferencing with the students about their writing projects or what they are reading. Usually the students do all the talking during these conferences. Again, the ultimate goal is to make the students
