Prompt: Describe a place or environment where you are perfectly content. What do you do or experience there, and why is it meaningful to you?
Euphoric. That is how I feel when I volunteer. It is the fact that I am helping others and putting them first instead of thinking about what I want. It is not a certain place where I feel content, it is wherever I am; serving those in need. I feel a sense of worth when I walk into a room, building, or warehouse full of people that need my help to continue to live their daily lives. There is something special about having a day filled with warm hearts and enormous smiles on peoples faces.
During my sophomore year in high school, I worked at a children’s hospice clinic, which was very hard for me to go into knowing that I was going to be side by side with patients who were dying. However, it was one of the best experiences of my life. I came out with a different attitude and perspective on life. Every day that I walked into the facility was a new day to these kids, grateful for simply being able to live another day on earth. They would always have smiles on their faces and were able to touch my heart. Their positive attitudes and beautiful faces brought out the utmost joy from a human and inspired me to treat life like they do. Every day, I thought to myself, how do these kids do it? How do they wake up every morning content knowing they are fated to death in a short amount of time? It was simple, they wanted to make the most out of what they had left. I feel fulfilled when helping them do what they desire.

Outline your developmental trajectory as a student nurse, from novice to competent practitioner. This assignment objectively looks at my developmental trajectory with growth in adult nursing from the novice level, advanced beginner and through to the competent practitioner level. During the duration of my three years of nursing training I have come to realise the obligation on myself as a student and future staff nurse to build the theory and skills base expected of qualified nurse. I shall look at how my learning evolved in the domain Helping role/caring skills on the basis of the Novice to Expert Model (Benner, 1984) but only as far as my current level, competent practitioner.…

At first I was very nervous to apply as a volunteer and had doubts about being hired. After a long process of applications, interviews, and trainings, I was assigned to work at 6-CD on Geriatric floor. While I was volunteering there I met with different people, nurses, doctors, and pharmacy technicians. Seeing the pace of work they work in made me realize how important it is to work in healthcare. For me, the most significant issue was to get the used to patients who have passed away. I have seen a situation where a nurse and a doctor telling a family member that their father has passed away. At first I hesitated and asked myself if I am brave enough to do the same in future. As I volunteered there I realized I got used to everything, I was able to handle…

Throughout this novel there are a lot of characters worthy of comparing and contrasting, however I've decided to analyze Matsu, and Stephen relationship. The base of Matsu and Stephen relationship sort of reminds me of a George and Lennie relationship from the “Of Mice and Men Tale”, in which George carries around Lennie like a helpless pet by caring for him, guiding him through life, and bailing him out of the sticky situations he gets himself in.…

I felt quite self-conscious when standing by the bedside. I did not know how conscious the patient was of the situation around her. It was obviously important to talk to her but initially I found it difficult to know what to say and was conscious of others listening to me and wondered if I was saying or doing the right things. The nurse present was very concerned she may die whilst we were washing her as he recognised Cheyne-Stokes breathing. I had never seen anyone this way before. I felt more upset seeing her deteriorate than I did when she died purely because I felt she was now free of the discomfort.…

Spending time in clinicals with this woman in particular, helping her with her daily routine as well as getting to know her on a personal level developed a bond I will never forget. This woman, 96 years young, was full of wisdom and didn’t hesitate to share it all with me. Through this experience I learned what it meant to be a health care provider and truly care for the person I was helping, even when I had never met them before. I’ll never forget the last day of my clinical rotations as I stopped by for a final goodbye to each of the patients I had helped care for and their reactions. Everyone I had helped was more than grateful for my time spent with them, but Beatrice, my last stop before leaving Toledo hospital, broke into tears telling me how I was the hardest worker she had ever had and how much she would miss our time together. It was that moment that I realized this is want I needed to do with my life and that making a difference in someone’s life through healthcare would be the ultimate high.…
