Attending a four-year university gives a graduate leverage over someone that may not have the same level of education as them, thus making the degree holder an initial pick. With one’s hard-earned diploma working against the odds for them, they do not need to rely on the desperation of the company they want to be working for, instead, the company counts on their applicants to enhance the corporation’s performance. The degree that a college student earns validates the skills they learned through the course of college, hence making them eligible for the best kinds of positions in their field of work. “College graduates are also more likely to be in jobs with better benefits” (Rotherham, “Actually, College is Very Much Worth it”) Financial stability is one of the many opportunities that a higher education grants a college student. As the Bureau of Labor of Statistics states, “someone with a Bachelor’s degree makes up to $1108, weekly, $281 more than the average person attains. However, a high school graduate who has not obtained a college degree makes almost half of the average median weekly earnings, standing at only $472”. Not only does it provide a graduate the financial security that they need but it also does wonders for their lifestyle by upgrading the position they work in and the company that they work for. The plus sides for attending clearly outweigh the polar arguments. College may rack up an intimidating debt, but it is more efficient to have a unflattering job that can pay off the collected money than one that cannot even pay for the worker’s expenses. College, a higher education, is like a sturdy foundation that someone will base the rest of their life upon, may as well make it the firmest it can be to ensure lifelong success. Much like Aristotle, a Greek philosopher and scientist, said, “The roots of education are bitter, but the fruit, is sweet.” Do not waste time on the excuses that are robbing millions of people their opportunity at a better life, instead take a shot and heighten chances of success.
