After reading the article "Choosing a College Major,” I feel more at ease with the decisions I will be making concerning my major and future career. I was surprised to learn that most people will change careers around four or five times throughout their life. The textbook reading has helped broaden my viewpoint on my major and career. This book has showed me that one major won’t always lead you to one particular job and that traditional reasoning could impede my career planning. By using the chaos theory, I can consider what I know, what I can’t know, and what I can learn in order to make reasonable decisions in my life. The activities throughout this book have helped me narrow down key themes, skills, interests, values, and other important areas of my life.
After looking at the different “stops on your journey” that the author mentions, I have thought about the things that excite me, what types of jobs or careers appeal to me, and my strengths and weaknesses. I have a lot of interest in business and financial related careers. I find money-related activities such as investing in stocks and mutual funds to be very exciting. Instead of going to college full-time, I am taking online classes and working full-time. After doing this activity, I learned that you need to be aware and take advantage of these moments when they arise. This activity also taught me to use these moments to better myself in the future. Creating a wandering map also helped narrow down my fields of interest. I learned I have a strong passion for sports, business, and money related activities. I enjoy leisure time with family and friends as well. Hopefully, I can take what I’ve learned from this map and use it as a guide for my future
