Combining Nursing Leadership with Advocacy
According to Dictionary.com, a strength is the quality or state of being strong, a mental power, force, or vigor; a weakness is the lack of strength, an inadequate quality. We all have and carry our own strengths and weaknesses of qualities. As I’ve learned in class this week, every nurse can be a leader. It was difficult to see the leader in myself until I took the Nurse Manager Skills Inventory by the American Association of Critical-Care Nurses. There are four areas I am going to discuss here about the Inventory: First is my personal and professional accountability as a nurse; second is career planning; thirdly is my personal journey disciplines; and fourth, and final, area is my reflective practice reference behaviors/tenants.
PERSONAL AND PROFESSIONAL ACCOUNTABILITY
My personal growth and development, including education advancement, continuing education, career planning, and annual self-assessment and action plans I rated quite high, between competent and expert levels. On a personal level, I am currently enrolled in the RN to BSN program at Grand Canyon University, to continue my educational advancement and continue my education. Being in this program has also made me think about career planning and self-assessments along the way. Although I am unable to be employed at the moment due to my disability, I plan to return to the workforce in the near future and I am looking forward to planning my future to come. I’m no expert at this point but I rate myself close as I am actively seeking further education at this time. My ethical behavior and practice which includes practice that supports nursing standards and scopes of practice I rated high at expert level since I hold my ethics quite high and always work within nursing standards and my scope of practice.
