Communication In Ian Mcewan's On Chesil Beach
If asked to define communication, most of us would say it is the relaying of message by two or multiple number of people. Within this relationship one person or several people are doing the relaying and others are listening to and interpreting the message. Additionally, communication separated into two verbal and nonverbal, typical forms of communication include talking, writing, sign language, body language, languages that composed of sounds, hand gestures, and much more. The human speaking and why they speaking that way they do have caused opinions from various authors and experts over the year. This puts huge strains on relationship and as for this case is it the cause to many failures in relationship especially when it displays as main …show more content…
Communicating freely about topic like sex, commitment in relationship, and daily talk between couple from the early beginning and continue through out the relationship helps create into a long and stable relationship. These “openness” helps the assurance between the person and the partners escalate relationship into unity. The lack of communications by the characters causes them to end their marriage shortly after taking their vows. One example of this situation can definitely be seen throughout Ian McEwan’s book On Chesil Beach when both Florence and Edward trying hard to please each other without knowing what the person actually want or need. From the very beginning of book there also hints of the impending tragedy between the lovers, as it mentions that, “Dorset coast in weather that was not perfect for mid-July or the circumstances, but entirely adequate: it was not raining, but nor was it quite warm enough, according to Florence, to eat outside on the terrace as they had hoped. Edward thought it was, but, polite to a fault, he would not think of contradicting her on such an evening” (McEwan 4). This prove on how even a basic think like decide on where to eat, they hardly communicate to one another, as Edward main concern was to please his newlywed wife rather voice in his opinion. And even though it might be a small thing but if they can’t talk about a small thing like this then how they can talk about bigger issue on their life. This then result being able to communicate freely and openly with each other play a main part on the relationship of every individual. This is why sincere and straightforward communication from the start of a relationship is criteria for a great and stable

    Communication to me is a way to get a message out to sent and received to an individual this can be accomplished in a variety of ways.
