Community Assessment and Analysis Plano, Texas

The city of Plano is located in the United States in the state of Texas and has two counties in the city limits (Denton and Collin). The city is in the Central Standard Time zone and Central Daylight time zone in the summer. “The city itself is 71.6 square miles with all of it consisting of land except .1 square miles of water (City of Plano, 2008)”. The land is elevated 675 feet above sea level. Plano is considered to in the humid subtropical climate zone. It has sidewalks and roadways throughout the entire city that allows the residents access to the city and eases the commute around the city. Plano has 4 different rivers and streams that flow throughout the city, 9 different parks and a nature preserve that has over 6 miles of pathways for people to walk, bike, or hike. Settlers came to the area what is known as Plano today in the early 1840’s and established different facilities such as sawmills, gristmills, and stores. This made the area more attractive to outsiders. The city thrived due to the flatness of the land, which made it easy to expand on and develop new businesses. As of 2012, there are over 250,000 people who reside in the city of Plano. “Plano is governed by a Council-Manager form of government where the Council sets City policy and the Manager is responsible for City operations. The City Council consists of the Mayor and seven City Council members, all of whom are elected citywide. Citizen advisory boards and commissions add to the governing process. The average age in the city of Plano is 37.2 years. There are 132,763 females (51.1%) and 127,078 males (48.9%) in the Plano population. “The
