Numerous studies have shown that being a member of a diverse community results in lower sociability amongst citizens. The effects of diversity on a community and the social interactions of the members of diverse communities has been a subject of interest over the past decade. Furthermore, many communities have become diverse as a result of increased immigration. 1,062,040 people received permanent legal resident status in the United States in 2011. The number of immigrants in the United States has continued to increase (Office of Immigration, 2012). Therefore, the impact of diversity on sociability is a critical issue to be studied. A community is defined as a neighborhood (Putnam). Sociability is defined as interactions with others, school activities, quantity of relationships with others and independence or dependence on others (Glassman, 2007). In a rapidly changing world, diversity amongst communities is increasing. Diversity in communities results in the question of whether diversity affects the sociability and interactions of the citizens of those communities.
