For thousands of years humans have been doing some type of resistance training for different endeavours. Calisthenics can be linked as far back as 527 BC. Where Chinese warriors used calisthenics to become strong enough to guard against robbers and thieves. Nowadays the army uses bodyweight training to prepare soldiers and provide them with strength and power. There was branch of calisthenics that was created a few years ago called street workout. Street Workout is a mixture of calisthenics and gymnastics moves, it is much more than just pushups, pullups, and dips.
Weight training has also been around for quite a while. The Greeks used to lift heavy objects to achieve their physiques. A majority of the public prefer weight training over calisthenics. All of the athletic programs offered in highschool and college have days the players lift weights. There are branches of weight training like, powerlifting, powerbuilding, bodybuilding, etc. Each focus on different goals and use weights in their training.

Weight training if done correctly will provide great muscle gain. This is because weightlifters like to train in a rep range of 8-12 reps which is the ideal range to build muscle. The rep range of 5-7 reps is in between building strength and muscle. Anything below 5 reps is solely for building strength and that's what most powerlifter focus on. Some bodybuilders use rest pause training to get extra blood into the muscle. Rest pause training is where twenty reps are performed in one set with relatively light weight. After resting a minute 5 reps are performed, then after a 10 second rest another 5 reps are performed, and again until an average of 5 sets are completed.
