“The best-laid schemes o' mice an' men, often go awry, And lead us nought but grief and pain” The poem To a Mouse, by Robert Burns is used not only as part of the title in Of Mice and Men, but it also mirrors many of the same themes raised by the poet. To a Mouse is about the poet, Robert Burns, destroying a mouse’s nest. Burns then attempts to console the mouse, telling him that, “the best laid scheme o' mice an' men. often go awry,”. John Steinbeck, the author of Of Mice and Men, took this line to heart when writing his novel. Another way they are alike is in both the legend and the story they are crossing a river, and in the story the Rat eats the boat that they were crossing the river in and in the legend the Rat pushes Cat off of the Ox while crossing the river.Lastly in both Cat gets mad at Rat and tries to hurt him, like when the Cat and Rat cross the river and Rat eats the boat and Cat gets mad and tries to kill him or when they are crossing the river and the Rat pushes him off Ox’s back and Cat gets mad and tries to kill him. These reasons are why I think that the two stories about Cat and Rat are more…

The term friendship, as defined by Merriam-Webster, is the relationship between those who help, support, and care for one another. John Steinbeck’s Of Mice and Men, written in 1937, and the 1992 MGM film adaptation directed by Gary Sinise follows the story of an uncommon companionship. Set in the 1900’s, Lennie, a mentally disabled person, and his friend, George, strive to achieve a dream of living free from the bondage of others. Some argue that the movie is more appealing; others point out that the book is more engaging.
