Similarities:
Canada and Japan in their food guides place much emphasis on the importance of exercise in society. For Japan, their government prioritizes the health and wellbeing of all their citizens, thus they present the ideal time of exercise needed for an average adult. As a matter of fact, The National Health and Nutrition Survey of Japan, conducts an annual survey where they calculate the number of steps per day using a pedometer and ask additional questions about their exercise habits” (“Japanese Health and …show more content…
On the other hand, in Japan’s food guide it is clear to notice that fish and meat products are given more importance as it states that people on average should have 3-5 servings of this food. The main reasons for this difference is the difference in Japanese culture and the substantial amounts of fish found in this island. Firstly, many Japanese individuals tend to have fish with their rice and other meat products, in almost every meal, making sense to why it is placed so much importance. “Hundreds of different fish, shellfish and other seafood from the oceans, seas, lakes and rivers are used in the Japanese cuisine. They are prepared and eaten in many ways, such as raw, dried, boiled, grilled, deep fried or steamed” (“Popular Dishes” 2016). Furthermore, as there are millions of individuals in Japan, the amount of fish and seafood available is not an adequate amount, so it imports a lot of its fish to fulfill the demand of people. When Japan is pending billions of dollars bringing fish into their country, they would advise their citizens to purchase a lot of it so they are able to compensate for the cost. In the contrary, Japan itself is an island, where it has many oceans with enormous quantities of fish. Despite not having a lot of native products, through the food guide they encourage their citizens to purchase fish to help the government make sales and help those individuals who are reliant on the fishing industry as employment. I believe the main reason for Canada not having meat and poultry as a main section because many individuals eat at fast food restaurants where the meat is very unhealthy as it has many calories and unhealthy fats, compromising the health of the people. With that said, Canada recommends to not have many meals of fast food if someone is going to insist on eating those foods. Another
