Compare And Contrast Fox News And The Independent Article
The two articles covering this tragic story, Fox News and The Independent, both do a great job in explaining the emotions and heartbreak caused by this terrible boat wreck in the Mediterranean Sea. These news websites have similarities throughout their articles such as their emotional stance and outlook on this accident. They also have many differences such as the audience they are writing for, the purpose of their articles, and how illustrative they are in their articles. The Independent article, “Italy boat wreck: Hundreds of migrants feared dead after ship sinks off Lampedusa” is written by Michael Day who is an author in the United Kingdom and the author for the Fox News article, “At least 114 dead after migrant boat sinks off Italian island” is unknown. Both of these articles are great at describing this accident, but The Independent article is better at explaining the emotions that went on and it also expands on the topic showing readers the big issue behind this horrific accident. The two articles have a few similarities between them. Their emotional stance towards this accident was the same; they both viewed it as a terrible boat accident and a huge problem. Both the CNN and The New York Times articles provide information on what is happening prior to the shooting. They also have multiple points of view from people they interviewed. In each article, there are personal accounts of what happened from witnesses who were at the scene. For example, the CNN article discusses how Zimmerman followed Martin although he was told not to. Likewise, in The New York Times’ article, Zimmerman following Martin is mentioned as well as the dispatcher telling him not to.…

The same story of voting in Afghanistan was reported in a different way by MSNBC. After reading the article, it felt like the information was precise and more accurate. The article included more quotes than CNN and contained a better variety of information so more of the story was presented. It was surprising, in a way, to see that different people were interviewed in each of the websites, with the exception of the police officer Kamen Khan. I figured that certain people would be more…

Both outlets reported on the story effectively: the ABC is clear and direct with information, and manages to keep the article concise with key points outlined at the top of the article. News.com tells a different story to the ABC, while it does report on the sale relatively effectively (although the information provided is outdated) the article is focused on Zimmerman’s actions and relies on emotion to drive the story…

One of the similarities both stories had been that they both voyaged to the new world on ships. The Onion's Article

The Onion’s article “Revolutionary New Insoles Combine Five Forms of Pseudoscience”, sound like the script to a typical television commercial. The article talked about shoe insoles that “Establish a correspondence between every point on the human foot, with another part of the body, enabling their soles to heal their entire bodies as they walk.” They also talked about “scientific-sounding “information supporting their new insoles. I have seen commercials for shoe insoles on television that sound just like this. How are we to know that the scientific jargon that they throw into these commercials is accurate? These persuasion techniques seem to work, or else they would not sell any products. In the article, there was a woman who talked about wearing the insoles for seven weeks after having twisted her ankle, and now it has remarkable healed, with no pain while she walks. I have sprained my ankles many times, and the doctors there, always told me that it would take six to eight weeks to heal, so with this in mind, the woman’s foot would have been completely healed. People who have never sprained an ankle, or had another similar injury, would not know that this is the approximate healing time, so they would believe the woman, and probably think she is a reliable witness as to how well the insoles work. Keeping this in mind, we should not believe television commercials just because they might sound scientifically correct. Do some research or ask someone who knows before committing to buying a product that you are not sure about.…

Indirect Action 4: Military. America’s military is by nature a conservative organization and polls historically place it in the conservative camp. However, over time Russia has conveyed to the conservatives’ information that the Federal government is bad, and that the US government is their enemy. Their deception and disinformation has grown in the fertile fields of the conservatives, and many are members of the US military. Take for example the Oath Keepers, former military members and gun owners who advocate that citizens be ready and prepared to conduct armed opposition to a future federal government seizure of firearms in violation of the Second Amendment. In fact, the Oath Keepers actively recruit members from within the US armed forces…

I had come to the conclusion that WBRE spent more time on their stories and had more convincible information and seemed more sincere when they covered these two stories. WNEP did not really seem to express their condolences at all in away to the families that were left behind from either story. I believe that WBRE is more credible because they had more solid information and they spent more time covering the story and they also showed a heartfelt sorrow for the families that lost members. If I actually watched the news daily I would watch WBRE because of the time they spend covering more serious stories and not dwell on other things that are not as serious.…

People have a deep fascination with participating in activities like high risk action sports. Two of the most extreme as well as revered high risk adventures are climbing over 29,000 feet to the top of Mount Everest and diving to depths as deep as 250 feet to the wreckage of the 700 foot luxury yacht Andrea Doria. Though the two seem completely opposite, climbing Mount Everest and Diving the Andrea Doria share some similarities. The similarities amongst the two can be found the most when comparing the Disaster of the 1996 Mount Everest climbing season with the fatal diving accidents that took place at the Andrea Doria. Both of these tragedies display some of the same factors that ultimately led to deadly instances, which are pride and ignorance. These qualities drive the behavior and ambitions of those whom possess them in such a way that they can lead to devastation, which the two events testify to.…

The very morning after, the massacre perpetrated by Elliot Rodger was being covered extensively by major national news sources including Fox News and CNN, though importantly, the coverage was not uniform between the two. These differences and how the media represents the issues can be looked at to see how the agendas of the major, nation-wide news agencies may differ from those of the local, independent new source at the site. Furthermore, whether messages appear to alter or if other related debates take a primary focus is of interest.…
