Comparing Thank You Ma Am And Mother To Son By Langston Hughes

In the two texts “Thank You Ma’am” and “Mother to Son” by Langston Hughes, the author uses the theme of relationships to tell the differences between the young child's life and the older womans. In the story “Thank You Ma’am”, a child tries to take an elderly woman’s purse but fails and after she notices he looks dirty and unkept, she decides to take him home with her and clean him up. She then asks him why he looked the way he did and if anyone had took care of him and he explained that his parents were ever home. She then tells him stories about the bad things she had done as a kid and they slightly bond. In the end, the women gives the boy ten dollars to buy the shoes he desperately wanted.
