Comparing The Archetypal Romantic Painting Wanderer Above A Sea Of Mists
An art speaks a thousand words! In this case, the art of romanticism. Art history from the 18th centuries express uniqueness, imagination, and sensation which are all part of romanticism. In (Marriem Webster’s online dictionary), Romanticism is defined as “a movement in the arts and literature that originated in the late 18th century, emphasizing inspiration, subjectivity, and the primacy of the individual.” Thus, the two arts being analyzed in this paper are: Eugene Delacroix (1798-1863), ‘The Death of Sardanapalus,’ 1827 and Carl David Frederick’s painting (1771-1840): archetypal Romantic painting ‘Wanderer Above a Sea of Mists (1818).’ Both of these arts embody romanticism and emphasize emotion, which are the main themes of the art in

This artwork depicts a figure with red and blond like hair, wearing a long coat, standing still at the peak of a mountain, holding a walking cane, which can symbolize fashion. The landscape is full of wonder, for the sky looks gloomy. It looks windy, and his hair is moved by the wind and mist. His hand is in his pocket which can be interpreted as the figure trying to hold himself still on the rocky mountain while he is contemplating on his vision. The colours used in this art are not any tense colours, but dark shades and some light colours to depict significance of the landscape as whole. His back is shown, therefore, we cannot get a glimpse of his facial expressions or acknowledge his emotions. However, Its romanticism side of this can be the mystery, deeply thoughtful emotions, and the peaceful mood the figure is in this picture. It can be critiqued through the view he is gazing at. The view he is observing depicts imaginational conversation of the figure in the art with the sky, clouds, and the rocks which is quite romantic. A serene, peaceful, calm, and visionary place would be a place for a lover or a lonely person to enjoy tranquility.
