Comparing The Homeric Myth Of Persephone And Demeter

The Homeric myth of Persephone and Demeter uses an overwhelming amount of symbolism in its development. The most renowned example of this is the continuous symbol of Persephone as seeds that a farmer, symbolized by Demeter, grows each year until its death in the cold seasons. Just as a seed is restricted to the ground until the warm portion of the year to comes, Persephone must do the same when she is annually taken to the underworld to be with Hades. This symbolism is able to impact the reader by evoking and associating strong emotions with each of the seasons instead of commonly viewing the seasons
objectively.
