Comparing Odysseus And The Odyssey

Many people have noticed the similarities between The Odyssey by Homer, and O’ Brother, Where Art Thou? by the Coen Brothers. Both characters exhibit perseverance at great lengths and many other things throughout their journeys. There are many things in common between the two main characters. Both are away from their homes for a long time and are leaving loved ones behind. Their journeys were very similar but different at the same time. Two things may be very similar but things are bound to be different.
Perseverance is a great thing to have, and both Everett and Odysseus prove they have it. They both show it through all of their struggles throughout their journeys by not giving up. Also they show many other great traits like loyalty, pride, and wise. When all else fails, they both push through and remember to keep going.
Many things are the same between Everett and Odysseus. They both show selfishness and aren't honest towards their friends/crew members. Think they are better than everyone else or above the law and don’t think before they do. Hard workers to get what they want and will do anything to get there. In addition when the boys in the movie sing about their lives for money and Odysseus tells King Alcinous about his story for a ship to ride home on. Or even when they met with the blind profit in the movie it was on railroad tracks while in the book in him had to go to the Land of the Dead.
