Comparing The Lion King, Shrek The Musical, And The Little Mermaid
Designing Non-Human Characters
Watch these videos of productions of The Lion King, Shrek the Musical, and The Little Mermaid and construct an opinion about what is successful and what is unsuccessful about each one.
After reading through the chapters of the textbook I discovered that creating a character begins with the actors. The actors are the ones who have to be energetic and have the passion to protray the characters to the audience. I do agree with the statement that non-human characters are difficult to design. The stage design has an important job which is to protray a certain image to the audience. The audience should feel part of the act and feel that they are in the world of these characters. For example that there is a talking

Also the actors were camouflage properly. The crops used such as mask, long fabric, and puppets made the characters pop out. I also saw there was no computer or robotic crops in the production. The fact that there was no robotic material in my opinion made the production successful as well because the characters moved at a smooth and decent paste. In my opinion, the grass in the production was unsuccessful. I understand they need to have actors to protray grass but they were not camouflaged as well as the other actors were. (When the grass moved the characters moved as well to protray the running.) In Shrek the Musical the characters customs were successful because each character was analyzed before making any customs. The characters have to be studied and based on their persona their customs are made. Also I liked how their customs are done by hand where they can add their own style to the musical. All the costumes were bright and that is what brought light to the characters. In the musical the unsuccessful idea was that donkey did look different then he does. The audience will understand because they are used to seeing him one way on television so they already have an idea in their minds. Donkey does walk on four legs but the actor

What I love about the The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe (TLWW) is its truly beautiful and enchanting story containing a Christian allegory. The movie falters in those moments where it robs the story of its purity and truth. As a child reading the story, or having it read to you, you are taken from an ordinary world into an extraordinary one. As Lewis wrote in his essay “On Three Ways of Writing for Children” the reader of a story like TLWW “does not despise real woods because he has read of enchanted woods: the reading makes all real woods a little enchanted.”…

Within seconds of the movie starting, differences are already seen between the book and the movie. Although the movie was amazing and received very good ratings, it is obvious that the writers chose to not make the movie resemble the book several times throughout the movie.…

The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe. C.S. Lewis’s first book of the Chronicles of Narnia introduces the reader to the land of Narnia. Written in the 1950’s Lewis’s inspiration to write a children story stemmed from the arrival of three children evacuated to the Lewis country home during the bombing of London by the Nazi. Within unfolding story C.S. Lewis provides childlike insights into philosophies of faith, compassion, temptation, redemption and forgiveness. Mixed with imagination and magic the narrator entrances readers of all ages; summing them to enter the wardrobe.…

We all grew up hoping to be the princesses who met the dreamy prince and lived ‘happily ever after’ like in a fairy tale. People debate over whether or not Disney fairytales are beneficial for children. Like Arielle Schussler the author of the piece “A case against fairytales”,I am against fairy tales. In this essay I will argue on why kids should not be taught Disney or original fairy tales.…

I do agree that Disney does follow a lot of the Gender stereotypes. In Disney, Women have to be really skinny and white to be beautiful, which is not true they focus on outer beauty and not inner beauty. They are teaching little girls beauty is being white and skinny that is resulting in an image and standards set for girls. I totally disagree with that and think Beauty should vary and not be just be white and skinny. In "The little Mermaid" many stereotypes are involved involving Ariel and her prince. They teach the idea of changing who you are to be with someone and not following the idea of "being yourself". They teach the idea that women are submissive. I think symbolically it even goes deeper to say that women give up their voice to be…

In all of the movies that we had watched in class, Aladdin and The Little Mermaid has the best relationship between comparing and contrasting. In both of the movies, there is one daughter in each movie who rebelled to find their true love. In The Little Mermaid, Ariel rebelled and went to the surface to search for her prince, but in Aladdin, Jasmine rebelled the law by not accepting the prince who came to see if she's the right girl for them. Not only the daughters whom rebelled, but, the main villain in each of the movies also share a similarity for how they hunger for power. Although the villain may grew into a giant monster, they were too obsessed with their power that they didn't realize what kind situation they were in.…

The musical overall had good special effects. The screens that pulled down were a very good idea. This showed how the characters saw the future with significant others and created a sense of how the character, Audrey saw her life. The lighting also reflected the tone of the musical. The lighting was a little darker throughout the musical and played it off a happy and bright town to a dark and scary town towards the end, but also reflecting the rock bottom the town is. The plant was so amazing how they worked with it and the…

The original Disney cartoon of a lion cub blamed for his father's death has been remade into a Broadway musical acclaimed all over the world. Seen by over twenty five million people in over 15 thousand performances this intricately designed wonder has taken over 37 thousand hours just to build the puppets and masks. The book, A Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens is the originally book where the ideas came from. But, comparing to the movie “The Lion King” there are many ways that they are the same and many ways that they are different. Scrooge has seen the first ghost “the ghost of christmas past” and the ghost had taken Scrooge to his his past. Scrooge saw many scenes but after all the important scenes were shown to Scrooge the ghost took Scrooge back to the present. Shortly after, in his room was another ghost, except this one was surrounded by food and clothed in a long green robe. The second ghost was “the ghost of christmas present”. “It was clothed in one simple green robe, or mantle, bordered with white fur. This garment hung so loosely on the figure, that its captious breast was bare, as if disdaining to be warded or concealed by any article”(Dickens,…

The play is very beautiful and I love the entire show the parts when everyone starts dancing and singing and playing their individual roles and how they dress for their part. The play was written by Walt Disney World and created by their studio and it was loaded on You Tube by jcmark42 on July 12, 2009. The artwork was beautiful and vitalizing and made the stage look very glamorous and unique. The location was in Pennsylvania, the genre was Broadway Production live, and the time period of the play was July 12, 2009. Yes the artwork was an example of the major characteristics. I expected that the play was going to be worth me watching and I would enjoy it. My expectation’s was how the play came out and performed just like I thought it would. My reaction to Beauty & the Beast musical was joyous, happiness, fulfilling and I will be watching it again. I loved the Broadway musical that I choose.
