Comparison Between Romeo And Juliet
For many years an ongoing feud between two families has caused so much disruption in the city of Verona, Italy. The families are called the Capulets and the Montagues, they can’t seem to get along and because of that there have been many deaths among the two families. Prince Escalus tells the two families if the feud between the them don't end, the punishment will be death. The Prince made this statement because in their fights it's never over till one die. That's when it happened, Tybalt a Capulet trying to start a fight with Romeo a Montague, Not knowing that Juliet a Capulet just married Romeo which made the families one big family. Also making Romeo not wanting to fight. Mercutio, Romeo’s Best Friend steps in to fight, while Romeo tries to break them up Mercutio gets stabbed and slowly dies in Romeo’s arms. The only thing Romeo can do next is kill Tybalt, because Mercutio was Romeo’s best friend they did everything together and had bond like no other. Romeo not thinking about Juliet he kills her cousin Tybalt. As he lies there bleeding out Romeo knows he have messed up and will never see Juliet again because of the Prince statement. Juliet furies after the Nurse came running telling her all that just happened between the two deaths and her husband being banished forever. As mad as she was at Romeo she thought to herself “Shall i speak ill of him that is my husband? Ah, poor my lord, what tongue shall smooth thy name , when i, thy three-hours wife, have mangled it? But wherefore, villain, didst thou kill my cousin?” (act 3 scene 2 page 84). Juliet began questioning did she make the right choice marrying Romeo. She came to realized maybe the families will never get along especially after the Prince banishes romeo they will never be together again. Is this marriage really what juliet wanted or was this just a mist of love at first

    The bodies of Romeo Montague and Juliet Capulet were found today in the Capulet tomb. Romeo had taken a poison, and Juliet stabbed herself with Romeo’s dagger. But the question is why? It all begins with the feuding Montagues and Capulets. Romeo and his friends sneak into a Capulet party, where Romeo meets and falls in love with Juliet. With the help of Friar Lawrence, who hopes to reconcile the families, they are secretly married the next day. Juliet’s cousin Tybalt, who hates the Montagues more than anyone, challenges Romeo to a fight. Romeo refuses. Mercutio is offended by the way Tybalt treats them and accepts the fight on Romeo’s behalf. Mercutio ends up getting killed. Romeo loses his self control and kills Tybalt in return, which leads to his exile by the Prince. He threatens to execute Romeo if he returns. Juliet is distressed. The Capulets misinterpret it, and threaten to disown her if she does not marry Paris. Friar Lawrence gives Juliet a potion that will put her in a death like state. Balthasar, unaware of the plan, gives Romeo false news that Juliet is dead. Heartbroken, Romeo purchases a poison and goes to the Capulet tomb where he murders Paris. Still believing Juliet to be dead, Romeo drinks the poison which kills him instantly. Juliet awakens, finding Romeo dead beside her, and stabs herself. The families are reconciled by the deaths of their children and agree to end their violent feud.…

Instead, the Prince lessens the sentence to banishment, as Mercutio, one of his kinsmen, was among the casualties. Friar Lawrence delivers this wonderful news, but to Romeo, but the youth provides a less than happy response.Instead of being grateful and working with the situation, Romeo complains and insists that banishment is worse than death, even though he will still see his true love and family. Later, he even throws himself on the ground crying, and threatens suicide. Unless he gets exactly what he wants, it is the end of the world for poor Romeo.     In the play Romeo and Juliet by William Shakespeare, Benvolio is more civilized than Tybalt. To begin, Benvolio is respectful towards his kin. In a conversation with Montague, Benvolio wishes that “[his] noble uncle…so please [himself], step aside” (Shakespeare 1.1.140-153). Benvolio addresses his uncle with the utmost respect and politeness, depicting his civilized nature. Next, Benvolio tries to avoid violence. Upon seeing a fight, Benvolio intervenes to try and “put up [their] swords” (1.1.63). Benvolio’s trying to avoid a conflict demonstrates his civil actions. Unlike Benvolio, Tybalt is uncivilized. First, Tybalt does not respect the wishes of his uncle. Instead of doing as Capulet bids, Tybalt expresses to his “uncle, ’tis a shame” (1.5.82). Rather than politely doing as he is told, Tybalt snaps back rudely to his elder, illustrating his uncivil side. Whereas Benvolio asks his respected uncle to step aside politely, Tybalt disregards Capulet’s wishes and even retorts with a saucy comment, hence displaying his lack of civility in comparison to Benvolio. Moreover, Tybalt welcomes a fight. When given the chance to avoid using violence, Tybalt does not “excuse the injuries/that [Romeo] has done [him]; therefore [turns] and [draws]” (3.1.65-66). Instead of calmly forgiving and forgetting past offences, Tybalt intends to fight with Romeo. Tybalt is being uncivil towards Romeo, as he is trying to start a conflict with him when unnecessary. In contrast to Benvolio, who does his best to avoid fights, Tybalt strives for a conflict, hence proving him the less civil of the two.     I believe that the first one we watched, the Franco Zeffirelli version, was a better retelling of the play. Even though things like the death of Paris and the death of Lady Montague were taken out of it, they were also taken out of the more modern one, so that has nothing to do with the decision about which is better. The first one did a much better job of immersing you in the story and making you feel like you were in the exact time period that it would have taken place in. The older version also did a better job staying true to what Shakespeare originally was presenting in the play. The second takes much more liberty in what the characters do and how they do it.…
