Even though I hardly share words over email, maybe this can be area to expand on to assist with communicating. It is also important to pay attention because of how one chooses to interact verbally and nonverbally while using CMC instead of the longstanding face-to-face interaction. Practice of verbal and nonverbal are not as visible when considering the use of digital communication (Bevan & Sole, 2014). Communicating via text messages are not as personal as they could be because it is on occasion difficult to understand the meaning of the text if illustrations are not visible. For example, when texting one could practice "engaging in and detecting messages of emotion, influence, and deception" (Bevan & Sole, Section 4.2). According to Bevan and Sole (2014), nonverbal communication is when people show emotion in smiling, crying, or through facial expressions. These expressions can't be seen in a text or email. However, I was able to determine this behavior by using capitalization, exclamation points, and different emoticons. Interactions illustrated a sense of love and care. There were a couple of situations of feeling the lack of nonverbal communication. But I didn't feel this is warranted in the current situation. On the other hand, after reviewing my findings. It might have helped with the waiting time of my cousin being in surgery by using nonverbal communication.
