Week 5 Concepts Review In children 's advertising, political advertising and health advertising the most typical forms of persuasion are endorsements, appeal to emotions, characters and storylines, and solutions. Advertising agencies run these ads with the specific goal of getting the public to stop buying a competitor 's product and buy their own. They make no distinction between a person and something that is manufactured, they still have to sell the product. Children 's advertising can become a grey area, when an ad intended for adults begins to show influence on children 's buying patterns throughout their lives. As our resource material suggests, in the case of the Budweiser lizards we had a generation of children grow up more likely to drink Budweiser because they associated a likable animal with the beer. Also in the case of the Camel cigarettes which eventually had to be pulled because it was causing children to smoke. Political advertising and health advertising are very similar they both use appeal to emotions, endorsements and solutions in their ads to varying degrees. In politics, endorsements are used to assure the public the candidate is reliable, they appeal to emotion to color our views on other candidates and promise us solutions for whatever problems plague our communities. But what if they are slandering other candidates and if they do make it to office and cannot deliver on their promises? Health advertising use the same tactics, especially the supplying solutions to whatever ailments we might have. What they do not focus on is the side effects most of these products have and what prolonged use can do to our bodies.
