Concussion Persuasive Speech
I am for athletes having time off because I feel like if you get into a bad accident and suffer from a concussion then you should sit out to let your brain heal before going back. Reasons why I go with this side because if any recognition of a concussion can cause increases of susceptibility to the athlete and their future. Also when you have a concussion there is a higher chance of you getting another one if hit in the head severely. Some people are against waiting a period of time because nobody can make you sit out and wait a certain number of days or any laws stating you legally can't play. Honestly anyone may do what they please but they take it on thier own risk. I am for it this because I feel like if the injury has caused such a bad blow to the head and causes a really bad concussion they probably should stop playing the sport before it harms any damage in your brain. Concussions can ruin your life your brain is everything and little fractures to it can cause such a big difference in you're life. Some cases some people can get back right on the field after they had a minor injury and play like nothing is happened but on the other hand some people have to stop playing the sport completely which actually means taking out more time. Most athletes take more than 7days to recover from the effects of a concussion or any other injuries. Concussions are actually the most harmful injury you can get in a sport because it attacks your brain which very harmful because your brain is full stores everything. In some cases I feel like if the concussion is not that bad or if you can handle it after a period of time , then maybe you just need to chill out and just relax and then you can get back to your sport that you

The MLB(major league baseball) has a protocol for concussions that goes with a new disable list(7 day DL). I believe that the new protocol and the new 7 day disabled list is the right protocol for the players and coaches to have that is mandatory from the league. The first reason why the new 7 day disabled list helps with concussions because it will help the doctors to diagnose the injury correctly. Another reason the 7 day disabled list is just right because its aim was to get the athlete cleared or prevent going back into competition to early. Lastly the 7 day disabled list is working to protect the athletes health overall and educating the athletic trainers, coaches, players, etc.. about concussions.…

The movie concussion was the first time of the correlation between concussions and football. As I read Nationwide Children’s article, “Concussion in sports”, allowed me to increase my knowledge. Throughout the article, the author categorized what is a concussion and how it affects players. During reading, I found that concussions are a serious issue in sports, because it can cause severe brain damage to an athlete. This is concerning because the brains is one of the most important parts of a person’s body and if effected it could change a person life forever. Furthermore, I found it upsetting that the NFL does not make the risk of playing football known. Although, I understand the NFL provides minorities with opportunities to become successful.…

Football is one of America’s most beloved sports and with the super bowl coming up; fans of the sport are getting ready for the big game. I am an avid football fan myself and love playing it as much I enjoy watching it. What I have come to notice recently, is how the lives of football players are drastically changed when they are off the field. Football is a full contact sport, if you’re not prepared or unprotected at any given time during a play, you could end up limping off the field nursing injuries or even leave the game on a stretcher.…

Last year, the NFL revealed that it expects nearly a third of retired players to develop permanent brain impairments.” While other games may be dangerous in some aspects football is known for specifically the concussions it causes. We need to take this seriously because many kids are eager to get back and play again even after having gotten a concussion, so they can help their team. However they don’t realize that the injuries sustained when playing football can later lead to long term issues. Also ⅓ of the retired NFL players having to develop permanent brain impairments is a lot of people.Just think of all the football players in the NFL you knew, almost 33% of them needed to get impairments simply so tehri brain can actually work fine and they can live. Imagine having to live a life where you everyday you wake up to possibly find your head throbbing or suddenly getting disoriented. All because of football. Is it really worth it?In the video "Concussion Hazards in Youth Football" (Dr. Drew interview with Dr. Sanjay Gupta,HLN/CNN) two men discuss the effects concussions have on the brain and explain, “Their brains are developing…

In an everyday game of contact sports a variety of things can happen to an athlete, however, it’s how you deal with those “things” that counts. A concussion on an athlete can be fatal if not treated properly and diligently. An approximate 60 tackles are made in a single football game, but it only takes one to possibly change an athlete’s life forever.…

Doctors proved that, “Recent studies have shown that head injuries sustained by NFL players can eventually lead to debilitating, chronic brain diseases such as dementia” (“NFL Head Injuries). This is a problem because the NFL isn’t doing enough to protect their players. Yes, the players do provide entertainment for everyone, but if the NFL keeps being careless many franchise players won’t be able to play. NFL players should be better protected by the NFL so players don’t develop brain disease, and won’t have to get sidelined during games due to concussions. Doctors researched and found out that, “A total of 87 out of 91 former NFL players have tested positive for the brain disease” (“FRONTLINE”). This shows that the NFL doesn’t protect their players enough. Only 4 former NFL players out of 91 weren’t diagnosed with concussions. The NFL needs to take better care of players so this doesn’t happen as often. Although brain diseases due to concussions are a tremendous problem, one thing that is much worse than that is a player's chances of getting another concussion. Once a player suffers their first concussions they are more likely to develop a concussion. “Studies show, after the first concussion, the athlete is four times more likely to suffer another” (“Concussions in Sports”). This is very important because as players get more and more concussions. Eventually they will develop permanent brain damage or they…

Taking that into consideration, I refuse to allow my son to play a contact sport where helmets are, “not designed and tested for how well they can protect your children against concussions…”(David Camarillo:Why Helmets Don’t Prevent Concussions - and What Might Happen). Bearing in mind that football players willingly go out on the field to slam heads for cheers and points, I would rather see my son in the stands than on the field taking hits that could perhaps lead to a concussion or even cost him his life.…

Last OP I talked about concussions and the effect they have on people’s brains. Other injuries can affect the way a certain muscle can work. When you break a bone in your leg or tear something you need to do physical therapy. While you do physical therapy it can take a long time to build up the muscle you didn’t use. This is not good, if you keep playing sports that muscle will be stronger, but the downside is that the ligament may be more prone to being injured. Many players come back from a serious injury and then do very well. One instance was when Peyton Manning came back from neck surgery to set many records in the next season. This year Peyton Manning is sorely underperforming and was injured and isn’t doing well. There have been stories where he has immense…

Football is a contact sport, and injuries are to be expected, but is it really worth the risk for possible permanent damage to the most important organ there is? Concussions are a serious injury, and need to be treated that way, as the organ effected is in essence the very life in a person. If someone doesn’t have a properly functioning brain, then more than likely that person is handicapped in some way. That handicap can be some such a slight tremor, or even total loss of motor…

There have been instances where cases have reached Congress to try and resolve this growing matter. Recently, Will Smith put out a movie entitled Concussion to show football players how much the sport they love does so much harm to such a fragile part of the body. Some coaches were in dismay at the film and did not allow their players to go see it. The National Football League has tried to make waivers for the players to sign stating that they know, they could sustain concussions or any sort of blunt trauma. This action has also not been all too successful. The National Football League should take major precautions in the safety of their players be enforcing soft hits, and no head on hits to rule our brain…

Hey everyone! I hope you all have been enjoying your rotations so far. It sounds like some of us have been a lot busier than others this week. I’ve really been enjoying my rotation thus far, my preceptor and his assistant are hilarious, and so it has made this transition a lot easier for me. My mornings begin at 7 with treatments, and then I usually get a break and come back around 1 for afternoon treatments and to cover football practice. On average we see around 40-50 athletes per day ranging from minor overuse injuries to traumatic acute injuries. Surprisingly there have been a lot of concussed athletes this week so I’m becoming quite familiar with the concussion protocol and IMPACT testing. I probably saw one of the worst cases throughout my years of being an ATS on Friday night during the football game.…
