Creation Myth Essay
There are many different creation myths from different religions and different cultures. Two of the many creation myths are the creation myth of Genesis and the creation myth of India. Although these are both creation myths there are still some similarities and some differences between the two. The similarities between the Genesis and India creation myths are that both of the creators are benign and both of the Gods are supreme while the differences between them are that the reasons why man was created were different and the creations are accomplished in different ways. The two creation myths of Genesis and India are similar because both of the gods are benign. In the creation myth of Genesis, God gave everything that was needed for survival, and places it on the Earth. In the myth God says, “ Behold, I have given you every herb bearing seed, which is upon the face of all the earth, and every tree, in the which is the fruit of a tree yielding seed; to you it shall be for meat”(Page 41). In the creation myth of India, Brahma is also benign. He is benign because he knows what the humans need in order to prosper and gives it to them. In the myth, it says “Now Brahma knows that these first humans would need fire to prosper. So he created fire out of his own mouth” (Page 40). This is what makes Brahma benign. Another similarity between the creation myth of Genesis and the creation myth of India is that both of the Gods are supreme. In the myth of India, it says that “In the beginning, there was nothing but the Great Self Brahman. That is to say nothing but Brahman existed. When you sacrifice to this God or that Goddess, it is really only Brahman that you are worshiping. He is behind all things” (Page 40). In the myth of Genesis, God is supreme because God created everything that is living and that is not living, he created everything that is in existence. What makes god supreme is his power. This is because he has the power to do anything and everything in which he

The different stories about how the world was created between numerous diverse cultures are called origin myths, which are stories that explain how things came to be and are probably the first stories human beings told. There are many similarities and differences between the Cheyenne Myth, “How the World was Made,” and the Hebrew Story, “In the Beginning,” that show how each culture views its’ God and humanity’s relationship to each of these. While both stories have animals being created before the humans, it shows the power of a greater being which is perceived differently for how they each treated the animals or humans and how they created the earth.…

There are two main differences between Genesis and Babylonian stories. First, in Genesis, there is only one God whereas in Babylonian texts, there are different gods, and each god is specific for a different “reality”. Second, in Genesis, humans are created to dominate the earth and control the living system but in Babylonian texts, humans are created to carry gods’ jobs so that god is no longer required to work. Nevertheless there are more similarities than differences. Both texts are an explanation of cosmic begins, they explain the reality before the creation of the universe, like for example the mythological stories of the battles between gods. Both text also include the divine of council and the series of birth generations.…

The Book of Genesis and The Epic of Gilgamesh has many similarities and differences. The stories are so similar that some people believe they are the same but just changed over time. There are speculations that the epic of Gilgamesh was written down first but we cannot be for certain. The Jewish, Muslim, and Christian religions all use this story in their holy books. The book of genesis could have very well have been written first or it was passed orally till someone wrote it down. So one story could have branched off and changed from one another or there could have been two floods. There are multiple possibilities to the origin of the stories. When people pass down stories orally things get changed from the original over a long period of time one could have changed the whole story. You can see the similarities of the stories that would make you think they were the same. Then when you break down the differences it makes it harder to believe that.…

The four different Hindu creation myths contradict each other constantly. Two ways they do this are in God’s arrival and what the world originally existed as. The main reasons for these contradictions was that in ancient times only the Swami’s knew the real meanings of the texts, so the average person was left to figure it out by themselves. Also, the sacred texts were written by various people, unlike other religions. This led to varied points of views and thoughts in different texts. One way in which the Hindu creation myths contradict each other is in God’s existence. “The Gods are later than this world’s production.” (That One Thing Rgveda 10:129). This quote shows that this specific myth believes the world was created first and then God…
