Creation Myth Of Orion Essay
My favorite constellation is Orion. Probably because it was the first constellation I could find as a child. Orion is one of the most and easily recognized constellations world wide. It is most visible in the night sky from November to February. Located on the celestial equator.

One of the many versions of the creation myth for Orion starts with a poor shepherd named Hyrieus. One day Zeus, Hermes, and Poseidon stopped by Hyrieus' house, and Hyrieus killed the only animal he had for his guests. His generosity was rewarded with one wish. He wished for a child. The Gods told him to bury the hide of bull he had sacrificed and to pee on it. After nine months a boy was born in that place. The child grew to be a very strong, and handsome man. As

It starts the same way as the creation myth I shared with you above. Orion was the son of poor shepherd, and was gifted with God like hunting abilities. On his travels around the world he reveled in his abilities, taking down every beast he met with ease. After a while on his travels he came across a young woman with hunting abilities to match his own. His counter part in every aspect. Where he struggled she was strong, where she struggled he was strong. The perfect balance. Together the vowed to protect the world from the great beasts and went out on a quest to kill all the wild animals. Soon their ego began to get the best of them, the enjoyed the hunt, together they were unstoppable. Gaia The Earth Goddess was not pleased with the way the reveled in their abilities she created a giant scorpion and sent it after them. One day while hunting they came across the beast. The scorpion went after the young woman and separated her from Orion and killed her. Blind with rage and grief of the loss of his partner Orion's abilities were shattered and he was no match for the great scorpion. As a reward for his bravery for comforting the beast that killed his love Orion was placed among the stars. However he failed to get his peaceful ending because as a reward to the scorpion for doing what he was created to do. Gaia placed the great scorpion among the stars as well. Conveniently chasing

I have chosen the constellation Cassiopeia: The Seated Queen. I chose this constellation because it was an unknown constellation to me until I studied the first lesson of Astronomy. The name Cassiopeia: The Seated Queen sparked my interest, and so I decided to find more information about this fascinating constellation. Cassiopeia is located in the Northern sky and is easily recognizable by its distinctive "M" shape. It is made up of five stars, the four brightest of which are: Alpha Cassiopeia, Beta Cassiopeia, Gamma Cassiopeia, and Delta Cassiopeia. It is bordered by Andromeda to the south, Perseus to the southeast, and Cepheus to the north. It is opposite the Big Dipper.…

As we started the first program, we answered a few questions to make sure we knew the general idea of stars. Then we labeled the altitude and azimuth of five objects. Aldebran had a altitude of 54o and an azimuth of 203o. Betelgeuse had an altitude of 47o and an azimuth of 203o. Castor had an altitude of 62o and an azimuth 118o. Deneb had an altitude of 13o and an azimuth of 328o. Elnath had an altitude of 68o and an azimuth of 184o. After that, we looked at the right ascension and declination (RA and DEC). Aldebran had a RA of 4.6 hours and a DEC of 16o. Elnath had an RA of 5.3 hours and a DEC of 28o. Betelgeuse had an RA of 5.9 hours and a DEC of 8o. Castor had an RA of 7.6 hours and a DEC of 32o. Deneb had an RA of 20.7 hours and a DEC of 46o. Finally we looked at the Big Dipper and the Cassopia to find the star Polaris.…

My favorite animals are owls and wolves. So, when I found that there were no constellations of owls (there should be, though, in my opinion), I chose the constellation of the wolf, or Lupus. This constellation also reminds me of Professor Lupin, who was also my favorite Defense Against the Dark Arts teacher in the Harry Potter books. I think that J. K. Rowling intended that to be, since Lupus means Wolf in Latin. Lupus can be found between the constellations of Centaurus and Scorpius. The Lupus constellation is home to some remains of a supernova, some globular clusters, and the Retina Nebula. It also contains two stars that have planets.…

When we look at Orion, we can see the greek hunter. Still in the greek mythology, he's been killed by Scorpius, because they were both in the same horizon. The Iroquois’s value of nature is not present in the Norse creation story as it is in the Iroquois myth. The Iroquois express their idea that animals are meant to serve them in the creation story in the fact that the muskrat and other animals risked their lives to try to get dirt for the woman. In “Odin and Ymir,” only a cow is mentioned, while in “The World on the Turtle’s Back” many animals are mentioned such as “turtles,” “muskrats],” “birds” and more (1). Another variation between the two creation myths is the explanation of the passage of the sun and moon. The Norse creation story says there is a “chariot that carries the sun across the skies,” but in the Iroquois myth, the sun moves from the woman who fell’s walking around the earth…

From the dawn of the first civilization to the bustling nations of modern day, great gatherings of people have tried to interpret their surroundings and justify their experiences in a spiritual and mystical way. Their experiences drive them to figure out the origin of nature and time and space. These so called "creation myths" varied in complexity and origin but each held similar views that a "greater power" ultimately began humanity and its domain. People interpreted what they observed in their surroundings and applied their knowledge to create these notions on what happened. Even though creation myths appeared all around the world and at different times, many of these tales follow a basic series of events. Many similarities occur and overlap…
