Creative Writing: Fodren Borden Drones
In the classroom the shades were drawn. It was Saturday and there were no classes. Borden was looking at the pictures the drone had taken of the gorge. Most of them were too cloudy to see anything, but the color pervaded in various hues on the newly widened and deepened cavern that once was a normal gorge with trees and brush and birds. None of that remained. He was getting disenchanted with the images when the last few revealed activity at the seemingly fathomless bottom. There were figures that looked like the one they witnessed at the cabin moving around, digging, looking upward. Then, the drone was thrown about, focus failing. A blinding light, then darker pink color descended upon the device that was taking pictures. The drone automatically ascended between the sphere-like red ball that was fitting itself into the new gorge and the glowing wall. It zipped up and out and appeared in the hissing, humming vapor hovering above. Borden had called it back. The scenery was blurry and white with stark branches sticking out of the snow and dark trees standing side by side. There was a close up of the fender of the vehicle then, suddenly the footage stopped, and the screen went black. The drone lay on the table next to the monitor. “My God! We’ve got to get up there and call for back up. Can you get NASA to respond to our inquiries? I think something has landed.” He turned to see Raman stretched out on the floor. “Is he dead?” John was surprised to see him prone on the classroom floor. “No, but I have to get him to the hospital. He has some kind of disorder that makes him sick. Actually, he has a lot of health problems. He shouldn’t have come. I’m going to drop him off then, I will go with you. Is Samiq coming

My division was stationed in Normandy, France, at the time of the Allied invasion on June 6, 1944. Toward the end of August or early September, Canadian troops captured me near Dieppe.10 I was with a small group of men who were cut off from our main company and overrun by motorized Allied units. For several days we wandered around searching for our unit, until one night we strayed into a field camp of Canadian soldiers. You can well imagine the astonishment all around when we suddenly appeared in their midst. The Canadians didn’t have a guard posted. This was probably better for all because otherwise we might have exchanged gunfire. Instead, we peacefully turned over our weapons and in return received cigarettes.…

When Proserpina returned to the bush where all of this started the flowers were dead, and wet full of rain. The clouds only grew darker and darker. Proserpina started to dig and dig at the plants hoping that it would open up into the underworld where her mother was. Proserpina just ran deeper into the woods pulling out plants and crying out to Pluto and her mother. Proserpina was all muddy and ran out of breath, so she sat by a tree and took a breath. Proserpina looked up and didn’t even realize it, but she was lost. Proserpina never been on these sides of the wood and it was so cold and darkness was falling all over her. She could faintly make out some of her foot prints that didn’t get washed up by the rain. She tried to follow them but as time passed it they became harder and harder to make out But to her luck she found an old abandon cottage. It was gone beyond repair but the room was still standing and that’s all she needed to keep her safe from the storm. Proserpina laid down and slowly drifter off to…

As the three of us walked treked our way through the woods, observing the tracks the boar had left after retreating into the woods after his failed ambush on James. “Shhhh.” Jake said as we slowly approached the edge of a ravine. I looked down and saw nothing, there was only the pale glistening of the moon on the ocean as we climbed down the vines and continued to track the boar, who we guessed had taken an alternate route down the ravine. As we reached the bottom, we noticed the boar`s tracks had just vanished, as if it had disappeared off the face of the earth.…

Nique crouched at the edge of the river with one hand dangling above the watery surface, the tips of his fingers slicing through the cool depths. With a soft sigh, he slid his eyes closed and tipped his head back as if to better feel the sun’s warm rays bathing down on him. Perhaps he enjoyed the serene beauty surrounding him, the peace reigning supreme over the small valley. Whatever the reason, the man remained a moment more before rising to his feet, a walking stick in one hand, the other resting against the obsidian hilt of his sword. He seemed to hesitate, his gaze sweeping over the area, but then he turned and slipped deeper into the thick…
