The decision on whether to stick to the principles of your artistic side or to continue the success of the new company plan is a difficult one. The founder of the company had always wanted the t-shirts to be designed by graphic artists in order to make sure that each of the designs was a work of art. Unfortunately, the sales of the company began to be stagnating for the first time in the company’s history. In order to jump-start sales, Off the Hook issued its first open call for T-shirt designs. The text of the book asks us what course Ali-Lan should argue for at a meeting to discuss whether the company should continue use crowd-sourcing or stick to the founder’s original principles. Our group has decided to use a blended approach, which will allow us to use crowd-sourcing as an option, while still using designers to help design the graphic T-shirts. This paper will explore how we came to this decision and why we feel it is the best possible decision
The success from the crowd-sourcing is something that cannot be ignored. The company had a lot of success from crowd-sourcing, which the original designers were not able to obtain, over a period of 18 months. This fact is something that Ali-Lan cannot ignore. There is also the idea that with having the consumer involved with the designing process they feel more connected to the projects, thus more likely to purchase the end result. Ali should want her company to have involvement from the consumers; it will help present ideas from those that buy the T-shirts. Our group came up with the idea of having the designers present their own graphic designs to a website and then we would want the consumers to vote on which of the designs was their favorite. This process helps us to keep the integrity of our designers while also using the customer feedback to see what they enjoy the most.
While using crowd-sourcing will help improve sales, there were concerns
