Activity 3.5 Case Study/Safe Assign
Maastricht Upper Area Control Centre (MUAC)

Maastricht Upper Area Control Centre (MUAC) Case Study As a part of the completing our 3.4 discussion board question for week three of the course CSCI_109/ Introduction to Computers and Applications we viewed an eight minute long YouTube video titled “The Future Today”. The video focused on the European airspace and the issues faced by the EuroControl; Europe’s version of the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) with the Europe’s dense sky’s and the extremely close proximity of its’ countries’ boarders. The majority of the video centered on the “Maastricht Upper Area Control Centre has been providing cross border services for some forty years, delivering outstanding performance and innovative solutions”. (Maastricht, 2010). During the activity we were asked to answer the following three questions. 1.) Identify the I/O devices presented in the videos. 2.) What benefits of technology has been derived for both the Controller and the pilot? And 3.) What precautionary notes would you want every user to be aware of hen using the Controller Pilot Link Communications (CPDLC)? During the next few paragraphs the previously assigned questions will be answers in more detail.
1. The input/output devices identified in the video were as follows:
Control keyboard- input device
European flight data processing (eFDP) - input and output device
Enhanced RADAR- output device
Mouse- input device
Displays- output device
Instrumentation- output device
Datalink system- input and output device

Before moving on to the next question this researcher would like to address Eurocontrols’ European flight data processing (eFDP) and Mode S Enhanced RADAR system. Because they both are essential to the air traffic controllers (ATC) and to the European

This paper will overviews the human factor implications of Automatic Dependent Surveillance-Broadcast (ADS-B). ADS-B is leading edge technology and since it is the future of air traffic control, these human factors issues need to be highlighted and resolved before full implementation of the system. ADS-B technology affords the opportunity for reduced separation standards, increased capacity and efficiency of flight operations, and it provides for greater airspace flexibility while maintaining or enhancing the quality of our environment. ADS-B monitoring will be an additional task for pilots to manage but the greater accuracy of traffic information over radio position reports should improve situational awareness of ADS-B traffic and ultimately decrease a pilot’s workload. Ultimately, ADS-B will increase safety while decreasing airspace congestion. Great abstract…

The following report is a security assessment on Aircraft Solutions
and the primary objective in this assessment is to identify the existence of vulnerabilities present
within the global context of Aircraft Solutions’ operations. An evaluation of the associated
threats will be deduced, accompanied by the exposed weaknesses. This will be followed by an
analysis of the degree of risk present. Finally, there will be a focus on the consideration of the
consequences resulting from revealing of potential threats.

 Assessment
Hardware and policy will be the main focus of this investigation. It will be narrowed down more

The combination of all above mentioned advances produces Controller-Pilot Data-Link Communications (CPDLC), "an air/ground data-link application which enables the exchange of text messages between controllers and pilots" (Controller-Pilot Data-Link Communications, n.d.). With this technology, the use of voice-to-voice, radio communication will be obsolete; however, there are pros and cons associated with CPDLC (Jensen, 2003).…

The tremendous growth in air traffic presents increasing challenges for air traffic service providers, air carriers, and the military. Such growth is straining airspace capacity and airport resources. The air traffic system requires significant upgrades to increase system capacity and flight efficiency while continuing to meet flight safety standards. The International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), and other civil aviation authorities (CAA) plan to implement a new air traffic architecture to meet this need. This new architecture takes advantage of emerging technologies in communication, navigation, and surveillance to improve air traffic management. Dynamic routing gives operators the freedom to choose their own routes, speeds, and altitudes in real-time, thus providing Visual Flight Rules (VFR) flexibility with Instrument Flight Rules (IFR) protection and separation and a shift from Air Traffic Control (ATC) to Air Traffic Management (ATM). The civil aviation community refers to these changes as Communication, Navigation, Surveillance/Air Traffic Management (CNS/ATM). The United States Department of Defense (DoD) has established the CNS/ATM program to modernize its aircraft. The ability to reduce aircraft separation and implement other new ATM procedures while maintaining or improving safety standards is…
