Cultural Background Narrative
I.S 141 Maundaari Shirer 711 6\1\13 Personal Narrative My blatant lack of care for religion was entirely influenced by my cultural background. My nescient views were caused by a heated dispute between me and my parents. My experience growing up is and will be significantly altered by this moment in my life 2 years ago. My cultural background has an impact on my life growing up, as well as how I felt at the time and the significance of the event. The event was intense as it had me feeling very jaundiced, and it was detrimental to my state of mind at the time. I really didn’t care about it at first. I just mentioned in a casual conversation that the topic of religion was not comprehensive enough. The specifications were unclear. My mom continued to argue against my theory. At that point showed total discontent for what she said, so I arrogantly exclaimed that I was solely agnostic. My parents, being the religious fanatics they are, already knew what that meant. If you have no suck knowledge then I shall tell you, being agnostic means that I believe that the concept of God is unfathomable, and no knowledge can likely be gained of that manner. MY dad then heard me and almost flew into the kitchen, where this dispute was being held. Both my parents verbally assaulted my ideals mercilessly for hours on end. I felt disgusted at their disregard, then began to doubt myself. Recollecting that my own views may be too arrogant and straight forward. At that point, I had no further care for religion, but took pride in my agnostic views intensely. To that point that people around me thought of me as atheist, which caused me to emancipate myself from religious speaking. This impacted my entire state of mind, to a completely significant point. For weeks on end, my dad’s purposeful face full of rage stuck in my head. As well as my mom’s complacent, almost insouciant discontent. This was significant since it changed my view on religion permanently. I

My father’s parents were born in a small village in the Peloponnese. They were kind and humble people that eventually made their way to Athens. My mother’s parents were born in Kafkaso, a town in Minor Asia, which at that time belonged to Greece. With the war of 1921, the Turks forced my mother’s parents to flee to Athens. They were wealthy and proud, as were many Pontian Greeks at that time. Both of my parents were born in Athens in the fifties. My mother left Athens in 1969, America bound and my father followed soon after.…

I dislike being asked “Where are you from?” because I do not consider myself from any specific place. I have moved around several times as a child, which has given me the opportunity to meet different kinds of people each from distinct walks of life. Being faced with the challenge of meeting new people has taught how to come out of my comfort zone at any given moment. The experiences I have had in life has caused me to become an outgoing, hardworking, and very multicultural person.…

Throughout my seventeen years, I have met and dealt with various groups of people with diverse ethnic backgrounds from school or through my volunteer activities. However, nothing prepared me for my summer job at the new local Walmart store. The first day of my first paying job was also the grand opening day for Walmart at the Dulles Landing store. I have met countless employees and customers with so many different backgrounds and cultures, who communicate with each other in so many different languages. The whole atmosphere at the Walmart store feels like I am in the middle of the busy World Market. There are countless demanding and exasperated customers that I deal with each day at the customer service counter. Through this experience,…

Part I: In some ways I guess you could say I am not very cultured, in that sense there is not a wide variety of cultural influences around me. With that being said, my family still has a large assortment of different traditions we do from decorating the tree at Christmas to going up to my grandparents house for Thanksgiving and making the same dishes every year. The area I live in is just not very diverse, it never has been. I live in Alpharetta, Georgia where the majority is white people and somewhat upper class. I consider my family to be middle class but more on the upper side. We live in a nice house in a safe neighborhood near very good schools. I went to the same high school for three years before a new…

I am proud to say, "I am a perfect blend of sweet and salty." My ethnic background consists of two; My dad being Salvadorian and my mom is Mexican, making me and my siblings quite the concoction of Hispanic blood. You would think because we are all in the Hispanic category our lives wouldn't be difficult since we speak Spanish, have the same characteristics, and usually, family traditions are or should be quite similar. Not completely, in this case, I recently found out that it isn't common for Salvadorians and Mexicans to get along because they both are just as proud and tough. In specifics, my mom always has given me the warm side of caring for others, being family oriented is important and giving is always better than receiving. My dad, on the other hand, was very dry in emotion he…

At the start of the assignment, I thought of many places to undergo a cultural plunge experiences. Especially since California is a diverse state, not only that, but UCI as well. As time passed, I discovered there were limitations to places I could visit. One reason was that I didn’t have a car, so this limited most places. Fortunately, I was able to choose two cultural experiences that I have not experienced and come to understand the cultures behind it. Without having a secure public transportation, I decided to visit places within Irvine. The first cultural experience was in Diamond Jamboree and it was going to H Mart for the first time. The second place was in Fashion Island and I went to eat at an authentic French Café called Café Beau…
