I have learned now that if something may look tempting and appealing to explore, it’s best to use your common sense and some extra research before deciding to do something stupid. For example, many tourists were tempted to explore the Darien Gap and did so anyway, despite the dangerous risks. Secondly, this unit taught me of something I had little knowledge of: the frightful captures and kidnappings of innocent tourists and adventurers. Not only does the Darien Gap possess the deathly dangers of nature, but kidnappers and dangerous people overwhelm the jungle capturing anyone who does not belong there. Organizations such as the FARC are widely known for kidnapping tourists and adventurers, and possibly killing them. This makes exploring the Darien Gap much, much more dangerous and risky. I was unaware that such things like this occurred. I have never heard of the FARC until I learned about Panama and the Darien Gap. Before learning about the Darien Gap, I have always wanted to be a full-on adventurer, exploring the jungles and climbing Mount Everest, but now I learn that I must value life before adventure and carefully make decisions. Though I am an adventurer, I would definitely consider my options and thoughtfully make decisions. Lastly, this unit has taught me that life can brutal and leave little options. Many people from developing countries deeply struggle to maintain a proper living. In their original countries, families starved and people barely made any money. These people are living in severe poverty. Because many people in the developing countries that are facing hard times barely have a living and are painfully struggling through immense challenges, they migrate to different countries in hopes of a better life.
