Darrden Restaurants Incorporation Case Study
In 1938, Bill Darden opened his first restaurant called the Green Frog in Waycross, GA. In March 1968, Bill Darden and Joe R. Lee founded Darden Restaurants with the opening of the 1st Red Lobster in Lakeland, FL. In 1975, Joe R. Lee became Red Lobster’s president and in 1995 he was named the 1st Chairman and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Darden Restaurants, Incorporation (DRI). In 1995, DRI became a publically traded company1 and, as of 2015, Darden Restaurants, Inc. owns and operates over 1500 restaurants, employ 150,000 people and serve over 300 million meals a year in the United States and Canada. Lee founded Darden Restaurants, Inc. in 1975, Darden has dedicated to build and maintain a solid, people-oriented culture. DRI gives its success thanks to its employees who always try to please the guests providing memorable experiences. That is why DRI constantly try to provide a nurturing and sustaining environment for its 150,000 employees.
