David Arnold's Lesson
Throughout the book Arnold learns about trust, perseverance, and forgiveness. Which makes him a more confident person. One lesson Arnold learns is to be persistent. He learns that sometimes he has to take risks to accomplish his dream. For example, after getting suspended for throwing the book at Mr.P, Mr.P talked to Arnold and told him to leave the rez.. The teacher told Arnold that if he didn’t leave he was going to end up like the others. To have hope people have to surround themselves by those who also share the same dreams. He then realized that he has to leave since people in the rez are hopeless. So he decides to ask his parents who has the most hope, “White people” his parents answered. He then says ”I want to transfer schools...I want to go to Reardan”(45). After he leaves the rez, his tribe sees him as a traitor. He loses his best friend, Rowdy and gets beaten up by him (53). Even though it is not easy for him he decides to play basketball against Wellpinit High school, the school he used to attend before Reardan. While he plays he gets, three stitches and a minor concussions but doesn’t give up (145). Another lesson Arnold learns is to trust. Arnold learns this lesson when Roger invites him and Penelope to join them to get pancakes. Unfortunately, Arnold only has 5 dollars in his pocket. He then makes up an excuse to …show more content…
He learns to overcome his pride and forgive others. Arnold learns this lesson during summer time on page 228 where it says; “For a second, I thought about saying no. I thought about telling him to bite my ass. I thought about making him apologize. But I couldn’t. He was never going to change.” This quote demonstrates that Arnold was hesitant to forgive Rowdy but he didn’t let his pride win and decided to accept his invitation. This lesson changes Arnold, therefore he didn’t keep score when playing basketball because all what really mattered to him was their friendship and not pride

And as in most books, the main character develops throughout the book, learning from his or hers mistakes and whatever else they might have come across. "What doesn't kill you, makes you stronger" is a saying that many live by, or turn to in bad times. What it means is basically that it is impossible to know which roads to take in life. You might experience a rough time once in a while, but life is about learning, and this is what you learn from. Secondly you will learn that if you choose one that is a blind alley you should probably consider an alternative the next time you have to a similar decision.…

When discussing how he typically felt about his home, Arnold was often frustrated. He was often angry about being in poverty, and being a victim of bullying. When Arnold was in the tree with Rowdy, he was experiencing a moment of bliss with someone whom he loved. Arnold’s mood is often reflected to the audience based on his language and hostility towards Wellpinit. Another reason for Arnold’s differ in perception may be due to taking a step back. For instance, when he was in the tree, he was looking at the whole picture. You can’t appreciate a painting if you are only staring at one brush stroke. Therefore Arnold’s everyday perception may have been a single brush stroke in a…

Terupt, the kids never give up on saving Mr. Terupt job as a teacher. To begin, when the kids realized the budget was low, they organized a fundraiser, this is a very important part of the story because it’s when it starts to show what lengths they will go to to save Mr. Terupt. In addition to that, they set up a bake sale to raise money for the school, so a teacher won’t have to be cut. Also later in the story, Luke one of the 8 kids states “I’m not letting him go down without a fight, and i'm sure the other agree!” This shows how determined the kids are to not give up on Mr. Terupt. In the story when it states, “ Luke knew if the budget didn’t pass they were going to lose Terupt.” When the rest of them realized that they know they had to do more, they needed to do more if they wanted to save Mr. Terupt. So they came up with the idea of making flyers that had a picture of Mr. Terupt on them and then saying VOTE YES. They were going to post them all over town and even knock on random peoples doors to hand them out. All of this shows how determined the kids are not to give up on Terupt and what they are willing to do for him. That shows their determination and will to never give…

While away at Cogswell’s school, all three of his sisters and his mother and father became severely ill with Diptheria. His younger sisters Mary, 8, and Elizabeth, 3, died while his sister Hannah, and his mom and dad all eventually made recoveries. These sicknesses and deaths made Benedict feel guilty for not being there and led him to take death as something that could strike at any time. His mother put an even greater burden on him by telling him that he must “make peace with God” and “prepare for death to overcome him”. With all of his siblings dead except for Hannah, he began to feel an even greater burden to become an honorable man. This did not mark the end of his late childhood troubles. With the beginning of the French and Indian War (Seven Years’ War), sailing the ocean became incredibly difficult and that greatly affected his father’s business. With his business failing, like many men in the colonies at this time, he turned to alcohol. His father’s alcoholism and failing finances caused his mother to pull him out of Cogswell’s school and bring him home. The Arnold’s were living in poverty by this point and many in the community began to worry about his father’s increasing alcohol problem. In attempt to remove him from the toxic environment at home, his mother apprenticed him to two of her cousins who ran an extremely successful apothecary business. Their business had been aided…

While reading the first two chapters of Eric Jensen’s Teaching with the Brain in Mind I was shocked by the complexity of the brain. Albeit our brain is powerful and amazing, it is surprisingly fragile. The environment around our brain has a tremendous impact on our brain’s development especially during childhood when the brain is developing (Jenson, 2005, pg 21).…

What Ray Brown means by this quote is that answering a question by using overly complicated words and data that no one can understand, is not answering the question and/or problem. Sometimes people do this because they do not fully understand the question or the answer either. Whereas if you come to an answer to a question, or a problem, as a group, which everyone understands, then the question is one hundred percent answered because everyone can understand it, and is not drowned in over complexity and data.…
