Dawson's Monologue
I waited until the moon rose on the horizon before I scaled the side of Dawson’s house. I waited in his front yard a few hours after exiting the house, and I saw him pass by the same window multiple, so I figured it led to his bedroom. However, he closed the curtains about an hour or so before I thought it was acceptably dark, so there was not an easy way to tell, though I could still see light peeking out through the cracks. He stumbled a bit as he got untangled from the branches and picked off some of the leaves, which I helped with in an attempt to save time. When I confirmed there was nothing else on him, his gaze fell upon the battered bush, and his lips pressed into a thin line. He gestured to it hopelessly. “I want you to know it’s your fault I just ended this plant’s life. And my parents are definitely …show more content…
How much was too much? How long would we even be together? I did not want to go through the taxing trouble of explaining every little thing only to find it unnecessary. Also, in all honesty, I did not know how much I could really trust him. I could not gauge his character after only a brief meeting. If I took a chance and was wrong, the more information he had to tell people about me, the more it compromised my false identity. I would be forced to change my form, and that would take a lot of power. Who knew how long it would take for me to recover from that? It was hard enough to simply keep my human form up! All of this considered, for once, made me think twice about the words leaving my

But there was more to it than that: I was worried that he would unfairly use this incident as an opportunity to support his claim that I could not “cut it” as a baker.…

The Humphrey family would perform a skit each year at exactly six-thirty, the mayor would grace the audience with a well-planned speech at six-forty-five. At seven o’clock the potluck dessert would be brought out by the women and then once a half hour had passed, enough time for the people to converse with each other, the festival games would begin.…
