If you're getting those courses for your current job, you might be able to get sponsored by your employer for them. But in most cases knowing defensive driving will actually be a prerequisite for getting a job in the first place, so you'll need to be able to afford it on your own.
Don't expect this to be easy - it can get quite complicated at times, in fact. Normal driving doesn't require split-second reactions and the ability to decide under stress. In addition, you'll need to know how to drive in a way that guarantees the safety of the person in the back seat, whatever circumstances may arise. And this often proves to be much more difficult than you would imagine.
Sometimes your job might require you to refresh your skills periodically, and in that case it's usually a good idea to get your refresher courses done through the same school that you used originally. They'll know what they've already taught you, what your skills are like, and where you stand to improve.
