Definition Essay: Defining A Hero
Hero Definition Essay
What is a hero? In the dictionary, it is defined a hero as a man of distinguished courage or ability, admired for his brave deeds and noble qualities. However, for me, heroes are not those who have special abilities like flying through the sky, shooting lasers out of their eyes, or controlling other people’s minds, but just normal people who solve problems and save the people from the risk in today’s society. Actually, in our society, a hero is a normal person as average as friends, family or strangers that see a problem and take it upon themselves to fix it. Heroes have existed for years, but they have slightly different characteristics depending on the age. Usually the heroes of the past, especially in Korea, won the

Unlike the heroes appearing in films and novels who have special abilities, the past heroes sacrifice themselves and go through many problems and difficulties to rescue people in risk. In the case of Korea, during the Japanese occupation period, which caused many sad events for Korean, there were many heroes to strive for the independence of my country. Many people were against the armed forces of Japan, had movements for independence, and tried to spread the circumstances of the situation of colony to the foreign country widely. By throwing their own body, some people fought against the Japanese army, who subdued them by force, and others held the demonstration for the independence with gathered students, and many people died at a young age. Among many heroes who fought for the independence of Korea, the most memorable person for me is a man named Jung-geun Ahn. He was tortured and imprisoned, but he never gave up the effort and sacrificed himself for Korea by endless resistance from the Japanese army. Even if many members of independence movements died before independence due to the killing and many torture in prison, because of their endless sacrifice and their devotion for independence, Korea's independence from Japan could be occurred. They will remain as a hero forever in the hearts of the Korean …show more content…

Until now, there are many people in the world who do not know about Korea yet. Also still, many people get confused with North Korea and South Korea because of the nuclear issue. However 10 years ago, by watching Samsung television and using Samsung mobile phones, people began to know about Korea. Samsung can be a hero as the first contributor of an informed Korea. Ji-Sung Park, Korea soccer star as famous as David Beckham, and Yun-A Kim, World-leading in the field of figure skating, also symbolized Korea to the whole world by getting a good result of the play such as Olympic and the World Cup. Finally, in the last year, PSY, a famous Korean singer as Gang-nam style, can tell a hero as the best contributor caused the biggest boom with Gang-nam style. Popular of Gang-nam style spreads around the world quickly. Foreigners who do not know Korean sing along with his songs, and even people are gathered from around the world in order to make flash mobs. Then, people became interested in Korea, at the same time of increasing his popularity, Korea, of course, became well known throughout the world. They did not sacrifice themselves and fight for

Heroes are able to recover from a defeat where a normal man would stop trying and give in to his dark feelings. One example of this is, Tristan Segers he was a normal military soldier until his vehicle was blown up along with one of his legs. “After nearly two years of surgeries and rehabilitation in Texas, Segers, a handsome 28-year-old, moved back to Snohomish County last week.”(SB, Pg. 58). The definition of hero varies among people but, in my definition of a Hero is a person who is able to achieve the difficult task regardless of the resistance of society or sacrificing themselves in risky situations. A hero is not a person who is easily scared, gives up easily and selfish. In my opinion, when people are described as “hero” we neglect their bad behaviors, but this doesn’t imply to every hero we should be aware of such things because we all have our own flaws.…

What is a hero? A hero to me is a person who is brave, has a bunch of courage and knows right from wrong. You don’t have to have a mask or a suit to be a hero. A hero is willing to help a person at anytime. A hero can kill their enemy with kindness. For an example I believe Jackie Robinson is an incredible, life changing hero. He had been the first African American to play in the Major League Baseball. He had played for the Brooklyn Dodgers. They played him and they had ended racial segregation.…

A great poet once said “We grew up cheering for the underdog because we see ourselves in them” (Shane Koyczan To This Day). When you think of a hero what do you think of ? Is it a guy in a cape, or a mom who works three jobs to support her struggling family? When you read that comic book where hero starts as a regular person. Who is just like everyone that no one believes. Everyone was once an underdog even that hero. You kept your faith in someone or something no one else did. And by the end of that comic series that hero did not gain money or get a reward, they paid the overall price.…

The definition of a hero is a relatively simple one; a hero is someone who positively impacts others through their actions and accomplishments. While we all have different views on who exactly we see as a hero, there are certain individuals, such as Martin Luther King Jr. and Abraham Lincoln, who have undeniably changed the world and fit this definition. I have found that many of the individuals who society, and I personally, view as great heroes, share a certain set of traits that almost definitely had a large part in their accomplishments. This is why I believe that bravery, selflessness, and determination are three vital traits when it comes to defining what it means to be a hero.…

    the concept of a hero

Reading The Concept of a Hero, From Greek Civilization, I realized their views were very different from ours in our time today. Basically to the Greek people, whoever was a hero, was a God also. As to us, anyone can be a hero. To us it’s the little things people do that make them a hero. one thing I do notice is the same type of importance we give to the most powerful, or most known. If you were to ask someone who they thought they were heroes you would get a lot of the same answers. It would be police men, fire fighters, soldiers, etc. those are most common. I mean don’t get me wrong they are heroes, but what about other people, people who aren’t soldiers, fire fighters, and so on? What if the girl next door just saved a puppy from getting run over? What if a friend just stepped in and corrected what they perceive to be wrong? Does everyone give them the same attention as a most common one? No, it’s rare to find them get attention at all. Honestly I think everyone can be a hero, you don’t need to have a cape, tights, and underwear on the outside of your pants to be superman. That’s why I think the “mortals” in ancient Greece weren’t too happy. In the text it states if you are a god you are immortal, if you’re not, you stay mortal until death where Hades will decide your afterlife. Before death they had a choice to go fight in war. If they stay and fight, they’ll lose a safe homecoming but will have a glory that is unimaginable. If they don’t fight, it’s just the opposite. They won’t meet death for a while, and their glory will be nothing. Another difference, they basically got to choose when they died. We don’t. I believe society is slowly going to end up like ancient Greece. Mostly because of all the judgmental people we encounter every day now. Hero’s shouldn’t be the most common people we hear about. We should start noticing the little things people do and tell them. Recognize people and what they do.…
