Respect. There are multiple ways to respect people. There are obvious ones,
and not so obvious ones and it’s the little things that count. The definition of respect is
to feel or show esteem or honor for something or someone. Examples are: being kind to
others, helping others, having the courage to keep promises and understand
others, build others up don’t put them down, listen to what people have to say, care for
other people and their things, and be humble. Those to me are some of the most
obvious. But there are other subtle ways to make another person feel respected. Going

Respect is something that
you should just automatically express to others, but it depends on a lot of different
things. It is a two way street. As much as I would always like to be respectful to all
people, there are times when a person does something that might take away my respect. If I hear a person speaking rudely to her mom, I might not have the same
respect for her/him that I had before. I should still try to show it but it definitely changes my feelings. There have been times in my life when I’ve had to earn the respect of another person, like a teacher or a coach. It doesn’t automatically come to me. I have to show that I am worth it. By showing that I am willing to work hard in a class, I can earn the respect of my teacher. But showing I’m willing to work hard on the field, I can earn the respect of my coach.
Respect can be taught by the people who raised you, who you grew up with, and other role models. Everything flows together to make respect, in my opinion. Your beliefs and opinions of others and other things affect your respect because you have to get along with that person. So all those things have to go together for you to give respect to other
