Definition Essay On Determination
I believe in determination, determination is something that everyone should have. I’m an athlete and I think that every athlete should have some sort of determination. Determination is having your mind set on something and fulling that to the best of your ability. Every person should set goals in their life and to be able to accomplish those goals you need to be determined. This year I ran cross country. I hate running but I was determined not to give up cross country just because I hate running. That would be lazy and I hate being lazy. You also have to think about the long term affects of determination. In my case, If I run cross country that can keep me in shape for basketball. Determination does not only have to be sports related. In school you need to be determined so you can get scholarships and other things. I used to hardly ever study for test and things when I was younger, but now that I am in highschool you figure out that your grades matter and you have to be determined if you want to go to a …show more content…

In assessing a leader, their use of determination can help prove if they are average or superior. Determination is firmness in purpose and having a fixed intention. Individuals who are determined are motivated and can get things done under any circumstance; being able to do that is crucial to being an effective leader. An example of a determined leader would be George Washington. During the Revolutionary War he took on the role of commanding the continental army; when things were looking bleak his determination led him to make a decision to lead a surprise attack, which was a major turning point in the war. Even though things were tough, he did not give up or let his objective slip away.…

Gallons of sweat trickled down my face while I seamlessly ran up and down the track. At times, I didn’t think I would get through it. It was an everyday struggle to continue my journey down the path of success. At practice, we would relentlessly run and run and run until our breathing neared nonexistent. I, for one, could barely keep up, but the fight inside of me did not die out. My coach would tell us that our meet was nearing and our will to win kept pushing everyone harder. We ran three to four miles a day with little to no breaks. He would yell motivational phrases to push us, but in all honesty, we just wanted to get back in our beds and sleep the day off. Although this is true, It became important to me to work to better myself and though…

You must have the strong will to “want” to accomplish whatever goal you set for yourself. For example, when I was playing the game of chicken and always lost in the beginning, this would be the obstacle that stood in front of me, but I overcame this by not saving any strokes to get back. I remember a time when I was saying, “You want to know how I did it? This is how I did it, Anton: I never saved anything for the swim back.” Another example of how I overcame my obstacles is obvious. My biggest obstacle that I faced was when the company Gattaca only allowed “pure breeds,” if you will, to be co-workers and be able to go up to space, which was my dream. I surpassed that rule by impersonating my good friend Jerome. A quote he said to me once was, “I got the better end of the deal. I only lent you my body - you lent me your dream.” Jerome was immobilized from waist down when he was hit by the bus, which let me impersonate him and fulfilling my dreams of going to space. All my hard work is finally paying off. My big goal that I have been longing to achieve is in sight. Not many people get to live my dream, but it took a lot of planning and thought for me to sneak my way into Gattaca. My next point will be my final thought about human…

When it comes to striving for or determining success, I believe that practice makes perfect no matter the subject. whether it is in sports or academics, practice can lead to success. It seems to be a common trend that success in life requires that us to not only have some type of the luck, but also other vital means of achieving said success, such as talents (either God-given or made). Practicing with all the time is one of the necessary factors we need to succeed. Training hard not only improves our skills but also help us to be more confident when facing troubles.…

In anything that we would like to succeed I we must be determined. Determination is staying focused on a plan even though the path to its end may be difficult. When I was younger I was very determined to play sports, but my opportunities seemed limited. At my age I considered myself to be one of the best football players we had. Unfortunately, it was hard for me to actually showcase my talents, because sometimes I would miss or even have to walk to my practices or games.…

Growing up, I was never naturally athletic and very injury prone. Regardless of these issues, I always remained determined and strived to accomplish my goals. As I enter high school one of my main goals was to make the varsity tennis team. During my freshmen year I practiced every day for the first 3 months of school hoping that I could just make the team. Unfortunately I tore a ligament in my wrist for the second time which prevented me from practicing till right before the tennis season started. I ended barely making the JV team which was very disappointing, but it only motivated me for next year. In my heart I knew that I if I was determined enough I could play varsity next year on my own merit. As I progressed through the sophomore year,…

I am very competitive so I am not going to stop until I am satisfied with the outcome. One can find my level of determination in everything I do. Being determined is not always about completing something first or being the best at something. It is about making myself feel accomplished with the outcome. Whether it is in sports that I am competing in or making myself get up and go to a class. Every time that I get out of bed and drive to school, I am shaping myself into a stronger individual that will be more successful in the future. I make myself go to classes because I am thinking about my future. If I bite the bullet now and take on all the hard tasks that get in my way I can have a more enjoyable life later. I am basically following in the footsteps of my sister. She is training to become a physical therapist. Becoming a physical therapist is not an easy task. If it was easy, anyone would be able to do it. I am fortunate enough to see the things that she did not do that would have been beneficial to her. I am able to better myself so that when I am in the upper level education courses, I will not have to fret as much as she does. I can prepare myself for the worst by taking on the worst now rather than later. This can either be for the upper education that I will need to partake in the future or the career that I will need to establish later in life. Success in building a healthy family and a…

    Devo's Ethos Analysis

In the essay by Theo Cateforis, “Performing the Avant-Garde Groove: Devo and the Whiteness of the New Wave”, Cateforis argues that the unorthodox demeanor of the band Devo demanded the attention of the audience and was the most effective way for Devo to spread their message that we are “de-evolving” and losing our individuality by conforming to societal standards. In this paper I will argue that although Devo’s unusual behavior was the most effective way to spread their message, the platform of doing it through music wasn’t the best choice because most people weren't’ looking for a deeper meaning to the music. This caused people to just feel uncomfortable, think the music was a joke, or think that the band was just a bunch of freaks.…
