Honest is a word that has many interchangeable parts. According to Webster’s dictionary (2004) “honesty includes free from deception, truthful, genuine or real, reputable, creditable, marked by integrity, frank, upright, just, and conscientious (p. 344)”. In this paper I will justify what I believe each of these terms mean. In my opinion, honest means loyalty, and being truth to yourself and others. If you don’t have honesty, you don’t have trust. In my city, being honest and true to your word gets you a long way than just your name or street creditability.
Coming from New Orleans, LA honesty does not come easy for my city. You have some people who earns honesty through crime, or some who ride the coat tail of a family name. Honesty can come from hard work, and grinding everyday making a name for yourself in a positive way. Honest means being free of deceit and also being sincere. According to Sacharoff 2016, deception is defined as the act of deceiving someone or the condition of being deceived. Law enforcement uses deception regularly. They utilize deception disguising their identity to gain entrance in a citizen’s personal belongings such as their homes, vehicles, or etc. The police utilize deception in the hopes of coming across drugs or other evidence of crime. These entries are considered potential trespassing. They also include the police posing as deliverymen for companies in the hopes to find drugs in plain view.
