The families notice that their loved ones are exhibiting behavior socially inappropriately, apathetically, childlike. The families have to experience the transition from someone they love to a completely. Once the families notice a peculiar change within their love one, they take their love one to a professional to get diagnosed. Many of the families experienced their loved ones being misdiagnose because there is not a lot of information on Frontal Temporal degeneration. As a result, many people are misdiagnosed with depression, bipolar, Alzheimer’s, etc. Therefore, the disorder goes undiagnosed for years. The role we play in the counselling process is providing education on the disorder, guidance by giving the individual and their families skills that would help them deal with the disorder , and support for individuals with the disorders and their families. We would counsel individuals, families, coworkers, educators, and other people in the community regarding acceptance of the disorder, adapting to the world, and decision making about treatment. We may refer individuals and families to other professionals if we feel that others may be able to assist in ways we are not
