• Creative writing: The main purpose for creative writing is to keep the reader entertained. Examples of creative writing are:
• Expressive writing focuses on the individual writing, it shares their thoughts, feelings, and experiences. When writing about a topic, they will express their opinions, thoughts, ideas, and feelings. They can produce expressive writing in poetry, diary, letters, and free writing. Expressive writing is also a great to use in the classroom for pupils to be independent, because there is no right or wrong and they are writing about themselves.
• Poetry is a great way to use an individual’s imagination whilst reflecting on a subject, idea, or an event. It is produced in stanzas and focuses on the message itself. It focuses on the language, the way the language …show more content…
is used, the structure and pattern. Poetry can be quite fun for pupils to produce, learning to rhyme words and create a rhythm in their writing.
• Descriptive writing: Using descriptive writing in the classroom can be a great way for the pupils to get creative. The main purpose of descriptive writing is to describe a place, event or a person in great detail which allows the writer and reader to see the image in their mind.
• Persuasive writing: The main purpose is to try and influence the reader’s way of thinking. When used in a classroom it will encourage pupils to express their opinions, thoughts, and feelings to try and influence the readers thinking. Argumentative writing is a different form of persuasive writing. It makes a statement which the reader will disagree with, but then will support the statement with detail that will try and change the readers mind.
• Writing for a purpose: Before producing a piece of work, a pupil should know the purpose of the work because they will write better when they know it has a purpose.
The children should be able to answer three questions about their work:
• Why am I writing this piece of work?
• Who will read it?
• What will happen with the work when it is finished?
Answering these questions will help the pupil focus on the aim or their writing. It encourages them to take more time with their writing and produce better quality work. It also encourages them to think about the reasons people have for writing, supporting the development across a range of genres. A teaching assistant should help expose pupils to different types of writing, as this will build their confidence in coping with different functions of writing.
• Narrative writing: The main purpose is for the writer to describe an experience, event, or a sequence of events which produce a story. Another form of narrative writing is Personal narrative writing which the writer uses to express and produce an experience from their own
life.
