One of the most common medical fields in the world is dentistry. Teeth are a very important part of the body that gives people the ability to eat and communicate. Because these abilities are vital to survive, it is essential that there is a place to go if the teeth get damaged. This is where the dentistry medical field comes in. Dentistry is an important medical field which developed years ago and has since evolved into a less painful means of treatment. The dentistry medical field is essential to the world as it is known today. Dentists are specially trained doctors that can improve the oral health of a person. A dentist can specialize to become an orthodontist, periodontist, prosthodontist, and oral surgeon. An orthodontist and prosthodontist are mainly used for cosmetic reasons. If one wants straightened teeth, he or she will go to an orthodontist. If he or she wants teeth replaced, the person will go to a prothodontist. Periodontists and oral surgeons are dentists that work with extreme situations. If one has a bad gum disease, he or she would go to a periodontist and if one had a tooth growing in the middle of the mouth, they would go to an oral surgeon. …show more content…

According to the article “Healthy Smile, Healthy You: The Importance of Oral Health” (2016), “Seeing a dentist regularly helps to keep your mouth in top shape and allows your dentist to watch for developments that may point to other health issues” (para 8). If a person does not feel comfortable with his or her’s smile, a dentist even has the ability to whiten the teeth and fix the appearance with veneers.
