Historical overview
The diplomatic relations between The United States of America and El Salvador have a long history of friendly cooperation. There are many ties between these two nations, however the main ones are economic cooperation, development and immigration. El Salvador and other Central American nations declared independence from Spain on 1821, and after two years of independence, five of these Central American nations formed what was known as the United Provinces of Central America (Office of the Historian). The United Provinces of Central America were recognized as an “independent union” by the American president James Monroe on 1824 (Office of the Historian), but after the ending of the federation, the United States recognized The Republic of El Salvador as an independent country (Office of e Historian).
During this time of transition, E. George Squier was appointed as U.S. Chargé d'affaires for all the newly independent Central American nations and it was on 1863, when he negotiated the first treaty between the US and the Central American nations. This problem only gets worse with the increasing number of kids under the age of eighteen that are crossing the border illegally. Even if the United States has a good disposition to help, El Salvador needs to start developing strategies to keep their inhabitants from choosing illegal immigration. These strategies need to focus on education, security and entrepreneurship. If El Salvador is able to deal with the insecurity that is experiencing nowadays, foreign aid could focus on other important areas such as health, science and
