Describe Your Career Progression
I came here to the United States in 2004 from India with my family to pursue a better future. I was a Mechanical Engineer in India and I never thought that I would go from being an Engineer to a Nurse. Life has many twists and turns and as individuals it is our job to be steady and move forward diligently. God can use people in more ways than one, and I was chosen by the Almighty Jesus to go into Nursing. My mother was a nurse in a community center in India. She was a single mom of 4 children. When she was helping people, I was always thinking that what she is going to get by doing all of these things. The salary of my mom was low but she still managed to raise us despite all the financial and social hurdles. All four children are doctors and …show more content…
I implemented her teachings and her way of handling difficult situations. I had many career options in my Engineering profession but I chose Nursing because of my mom. I am an LPN today but the reason why I am pursuing the RN degree is to make sure that I can serve the people and contribute to the society in an appropriate manner as my mom did. When she passed away, the community of that area still remembers her for the good things that she did for the community. She opened an opportunity for me to come to the United States. However, there were several obstacles that need to overcome. English is my second language and my primary language is Hindi. Due to this it was hard to understand American English because it is different from Indian English. For example in India we call trash can dustbin while over here it is called garbage can. My second obstacle is finance and as a father and a husband who is trying to provide all comforts for my family. Because of this, balancing this program with my job is not an easy thing to do. My age is also a factor because I am in my fifties and it is increasingly difficult to keep up with all of these …show more content…
My three short term goals for reaching my BSN are choosing the right college, taking the required classes, and giving my 100% effort in order to achieve and get closer to the main objective. JJC is the perfect college for my RN program because it is affordable and it helps me save my money unlike other colleges where the price is very high. Not only that but this college is one of the best colleges in America and has good ratings as well as a nice and a great atmosphere which helps me to learn. Taking the required classes such as the one helps me in the long term because it gets me closer to my degree. These courses are here to teach the students the necessary skills to succeed as a nurse and I will do my best to understand the material and apply it to my job. Giving 100% effort is also necessary in order to achieve and get closer to my degree because without effort you cannot accomplish anything in life. Nursing may seem hard to those who may see it from the cover but if you work hard then there is nothing that you cannot

I chose nursing as my profession because of my mother and other factors. My mother was an influence because early this year she was in the hospital for two weeks and during that period I only saw the doctor thrice. The nurses where the ones doing everything, so I felt they were the ones who nursed her back to health. The other deciding factors were: variety of places for jobs whether in the public, private, or community setting; the opportunity to learn new things since no day is ever the same; the opportunity to work with other health professionals; nurses will always be needed; nursing offers specialty areas, and the opportunity to be a traveling nursing.…

I loved music, math, design, helping others, working with kids, analyzing situations and solving problems. Some jobs are physically demanding. Some jobs are mentally demanding. Some are emotionally demanding. Nursing is all three. Ask any person in another career about how much they learned after they finished their education and/or graduated and went to work. Many will tell you that they learn nothing new. As an RN, you learn something new every day you go to work because every day comes with a new set of patients, regardless of what specialty you work in. As I continue my path as a future baccalaureate nurse, I will build a stronger focus on nursing theory, communication, and leadership.…

In an advanced society such as ours, it is unfortunate we are not able to provide what should be a basic human right to all American citizens, quality healthcare. The quality or level of healthcare should be a right for all and not a privilege for some. Once a single definition is established, health care professionals can begin to measure quality and improve the process of healthcare in this country. The U.S. Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality defines quality healthcare as "doing the right thing, at the right time, in the right way, for the right person, and having the best possible results." www.ahrq.gov/consumer/qnt/qntlook.htm. Once the industry establishes what is wrong, it can begin to devise some solutions to improve the quality of healthcare. With that said, how can an acceptable level of quality of health care be assured for all American citizens?…
