The most Horrific mistake a parent or caregiver can make is to think leaving a child in a vehicle could never happen to them or their family. According to Jan Null, CCN who conducted a study on Heatstroke Deaths of Children in Vehicles,” in the year 2014 the total number of U.S. heatstroke deaths of children left in cars was 31, and 87% of children who have died from vehicular heat stroke are age 3 and younger.” The majority of parents would like to believe that they could never forget their child in a vehicle, however well over 50% of these cases unknowingly left them in the vehicle. Something needs to change, it is not enough that people are made aware of what can happen or that there are some states have unattended child laws we need an invention made to save children that are left in cars. The part of the brain that stores new information such as (your child is in the car) this is called the Hippocampus. There is the Prefrontal Cortex which enables us to plan the future, accounting for a change in routine such as (go to daycare rather than straight to work).Last there is the Basal Ganglia, this part stresses the habit memories and enables Auto-pilot (like driving to and from work).Misremembering is due to the Basal Ganglia takes over and suppresses the Prefrontal Cortex which then puts the brain on auto-pilot doing what it would normally do on any given day; not accounting for changes in routine.
